I have a 1993 honda accord. Washed motor at car wash, then 4 days later battery died Charging system failure. I replaced alternator and charged battery with battery charger, started car and after a while battery loses power slowly and car dies.. whats wrong? cant find fuse if any
The instructions for installing a new alternator usually read to fully charge the battery (12.3 - 12.8 volt range). Otherwise, the alternator will be damaged when it initializes. I have seen some extreme damage result from installing a new alternator with a low-charge battery. The torque required to turn an alternator when damaged in this scenario is unbelieveable!
I think we've discovered the problem -- the squealing is a dead giveaway -- afraid it's back to the parts place for another alternator.
It just dawned on me that you probably are asking is there anything besides the alternator which could have been damaged.
I think there is possible alternator belt damage from the excessive slipping.
Oh, yes, if you could respond with a "problem solved" rating, I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks...
Charlie
No, The problem is not the alternator, I replaced it with a new one two days ago and the one I replaced it for I had tested, its good.

Usually answered in minutes!
I only charged the battery long enough for the car to start
Wow! I noticed that for a while there was some loud squeeling
going on and then it went away.. perhaps you are right and
the alternator was under stress or something... Is there something
else i could check for
Thanks!
Thanks for the super advise, and for helping people with their issues!
Did you charge the battery before you installed and ran the new alternator?
We just had the alternator replaced because the battery light was on and the battery light when off but 5 days later the battery light is back on and now the VTM-4 light is on.
