the timing chain noise on nissan altima 2005 only 80,000 miles and yes this car do not uses a belt and the noise it is only when it is cold o in the firts 15 minutos after started posted again by [email protected]

Obviously it's time to replace the chain...however, I think this car uses a belt instead.  Can you pinpoint the source of the noise? There is also a hydraulic belt tenisioner that should keep the belt tight.  How many miles on the car?

to landsend; There is not such thing as a hydraulic 'belt' tensioner, AFAIK. While hydralic tensioners have seals, they also have bleed holes in my experience, and drip the excess oil. They run in the crankcase side of an engine. Belts run in a dry cover, outside a camshaft cover. YOu could not have a tensioner dripping oil in the dry belt cover. you would pump out oil (loss) and oil the belt. Mr K L

The timing chaing noise is very common on almost all v6 nissan engines. There is a significant difference for the maxima's though.

Timing chain noise is very common and it is the result of the secondary timing chain tensioners. They often stick and put too much tension on the chain and the plastic guides for the tensioner wear down to metal and that is the noise you hear.

At Nissan, I have performed this replacement many times and I suggest you take it to the dealership to have it fixed.

I would say that it is your timing chain tensioner it may need changed. if you were not the first owner of the vehicle the engine could have been abused and over revved several times causing the chain to wear prematurely.

How do i change the timing belt on a nissan altima 2001

A Nissan ultima does not have a timing belt,it has a timing chain, look up in your manual for your maintenance schedules when and at what mileage you are needed to change the chain, usually the chain is changed when it is loose through stretching in wear over mileage,a very loose chain has a rattling noise in the engine compartment by the cam gears, good luck ,hope that I was helpful.

I have a 2005 V6 Altima. It makes a whining noise when I drive it. If I am coming down a steep hill, the sound I hear is like the gear is stuck and not shifting correctly. When I had my oil replaced...

sounds to me like they are right on the money. its a pretty common issue on 3.5 litre engine in a altima, maxima murano and quest. you do need upper timing chains and chain tensoiners. its unfortunate that those cars have an issue, but thats what you need. nissan has been pretty reliable vehicle until the new models came out (1999 and up). The upper timing chains are known to go bad even in some 4.0 litre engines. good luck with that, that is a job that requires some car knowledge and mechanical skill to get it done.

2005 Nissan Altima makes rattling/vibration noise

It is possible that you have some timing chain noise, especially if you have the 3.5L engine. The secondary timing chain tensioners on the 3.5 have a known problem, Nissan has issued a service bulletin regarding this and there is an updated part to replace them. It is not a cheap job, but your dealer may give you some "goodwill" depending on your mileage. If you have the 2.5L the problem may a couple of other things...even more serious! They had catalytic converters that came apart and got ingested into the engine, eventually destroying it. Try googling "Altima rattle" and include your engine size in the search. There is a ton of info on the net about noises in these cars.

05 nissan frontier engine noise just above 2000rpm knocking, tapping, rapping? worse when cold 90K 4.0 V6 ONLY 2000-2200rpm noticable separate from usual engine reving

These engines have a problem with two of the timing chain tensioners, there are three of them. There is actually a service bulletin regarding this problem and updated parts. Unfortunately it is pretty difficult to get at these parts and it is not cheap to do the job. You can probably expect to pay up to $1200. for a dealership to do this job. They may try and help you a little considering the parts were faulty and have been updated but they are not obligated to legally. It is very important that you take care of this problem as the chains will eventually fail because of this problem and destroy the engine. Here is the number of the bulletin:

Reference: NTB07-042A
Date: April 17, 2009

ACTION:

1. Replace both secondary timing chains and both secondary timing chain tensioners with the ones from the Parts Information section of this bulletin.

2. Change the engine oil and filter.

Hope this helps,
Dave

I have 97000 mile on my 05 Nissan Altima 3.5 SER the timing chain is making noise if I went over 7500 mile on synthic oil would that make my timing chain go bad the dealership said that is why it is making...

That's a load of **** they are feeding you.The timing chain tentioner has a fault and not tentioning the chian.I think you have done a good thing keeping it on synthetic oil. That causes less wear on moving parts than other oils.
