Locate coolant temperature sensor. Allow engine to warm up. Loosen to allow air to escape. When only fluid comes out bleeding is complete. I would advise doing again after engine cools about 2hrs later since engine was empty

SOURCE: 87 dakota over heating

take it to a lube shop, and they have a vacum replacment system that will **** all the fluid and air out. put a vacum on the system then replace it with new coolant with out any air pockets. this should do the trick.

HOW TO LET THE AIR OUT THE COOLING SYSTEM ON A 2002 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

You should have a vacuum puller, but alternatively, you can purge it by letting in freon on the low side and opening the high side for about 4 seconds, that should purge all the air in the system.

My 2002 buick century overheats and has no heat

Possible trapped in system. Bleed system, should have two small screw bleeders, one in front of left valve cover on pipe behind water pump and the other on coolant pipe outlet as you follow upper rad. hose towards engine. Engine cool, remove rad cap, open both bleed screws and fill rad until coolant flows free out both bleed ports. close both bleed screws, rad cap off, start engine and let idle until upper hose is hot to touch , shut off, let it cool down for 20 minutes, top up rad and install cap. restart car ,drive and check.

2000 suzuki esteem 1.6 litre over heating

May need to bleed the air out of the system after the hose change. Look for small bleed valve on the top engine or cooling hoes/pipe bleed slowly while engine is at operating temp, then refill after reservoir after car cools down

2001 Town and Country. Coolant backing up into overflow bottle, which is causing the overall level to drop. As a result, I have no heat in the passenger compartment. Get heat when system refilled. At a...

If everything is working correctly; thermostat, heater core, water pump, head gaskets, etc. Then that leaves the radiator cap, the overflow hose or the overflow tank as being the problem.

As the engine heats up the coolant expands flowing into the overflow tank. As the engine cools the coolant is drawn back into the engine from the overflow tank. but this depends on the vacuum created by the cooling liquid. the radiator cap has a "valve" that lets pressure out and vacuum in. If it fails then you may not achieve a good vacuum. The hose that connects to the over flow tank must be non leaking as well; if it leaked then coolant would not be drawn back into the engine, only air would be sucked in. And lastly the coolant has to be drawn from the bottom of the overflow tank. again we dont want to be sucking air.

Some engines require a vent screw to be opened when bleeding the air out of the engine.

Engine gets hoat some time, no heat from heater. top hose seems hot to touch lower hose is cool. Drained radiator few weeks ago and problem began

Theres a strong possibility being you just changed the coolant a few weeks ago that theres air in the cooling system not allowing the coolant to cirrculate properly, look at your top radiator hose is theres a small bleed valve at the top of the thermostat housing when the upper hose attactes to? If so loosen the bleed valve and allow the cooling system to purge the air out of the system you can tell when the air is out of the system when a steady stream of coolant starts to flow out of the bleed valve, if theres no bleed valve take the top radiator hose off of the engine side and allow the cooling system to purge the air out through the top of the engine that way, but it definatly sounds like theres air in the system not allowing for the cooling system to cool properly...
