Alternator or battery or starter relay not grounded properly which can cause a no start condition...

A battery test is easy to perform and can be done at home. First, open the hood and start the car. While the engine is running, remove the negative cable from the battery. If the vehicle stalls or dies, the alternator is likely bad, if not, replace the battery.. cheers

Check your battery connections also. This is a common problem after years of use. a loose connection can cause a no start, and the clamp on the jumper cable forces the connection between the clamp and battery terminal. Then the vehicle starts as tho there was never a problem. As the other answering person stated it could also be a battery. Have that tested, usually free as parts stores or large chain shops/dealerships.

SOURCE: Starter solenoid makes lots of

I would still think that its the battery you should definately have it tested .....but changing the starter sounds like a good idea...if you are doing it yourself (cheap).....but first make sure your battery terminals are clean and not corroded .....if so they are like 3 bucks at walmart

SOURCE: How do I jump start the car? The battery is dead

YOU DO.
Pull another car or battery to front of car ,,and get the set of jumper wires (RED/BLACK) Red lead goes to Poss term (the biggest one) on both cars ..
Then the black lead goes to the earth side of battery
When started let engine run for 2 minutes and then remove the Black lead first on both cars then the Red lead, then let it run for about another 6 minutes or take it for a drive ,,,but connect the leads around the correct way to batterys......

While driving down road my kia 2002 spectra just died and now when I turn key it just clicks and all the dash lights and radio go out

was there any warning lights before dieing ?it would seem to be an alternator/charging problem,is the serpent belt ok? try jump starting or changing the battery, if she starts then check for ignition charge light staying on, if she still wont start/turnover could be a starter motor problem or a jammed alternator, if she wont turn over on a fully charged battery or jump leads remove the serpent belt that drives the alternator/AC /power steering etc try starting again if ok switch off and try turning each pulley driven by the serpent belt by hand the only one you should not be able to turn is the main crankshaft pulley, if any of the others are hard or impossible to turn you have found the problem

How do I set the settings on my NAPA automatic starter/charger to charge my battery in the car or to try to use it to quick start the car battery? Both ways to set the starter/charger would be helpfu

Put it on medium or the quick charge. If it has a start or boost on it put it on that and try to start the car. Do not leave it on a high rate (start or boost)for long periods or the battery could explode.

How do I set the settings on my NAPA automatic starter/charger 85-435 to charge my car battery or to try to quick start my car? I have a 1997 VW Cabriolet.

It is best to "trickle charge" a low/dead car battery using the lowest setting. The "jump start" function will probably not have enough juice to start your car by itself. Refer to the manual of your charger for safety precautions.

TAZZ SOMETIMES DOES NOT WANT START

Sounds like you need to get your battery fully charged on a battery charger and then tested at a garage. Driving will put some charge in your battery but not fully charge it. After your battery has been flat it is less likely to fully recharge and the alternator is designed to keep the battery topped up rather than fully charge it. Jon

My Honda Accord wont start even with a jump. The lights come on but wont turn over. No click, no sound, no nothing

IT's those short drives that burn down a battery! The starting of an engine requires mucho electric to get it running. The alternator then charges the battery, but slowly! If you also have the lights and stereo on it is even slower. Get the battery FULLY charged with a commercial battery charger. Then check to see if the alternator is charging up the battery after you start it. If not, replace the alternator. If the battery dies overnight or in a few days...replace the battery.

Wont start, until batter is fully charged, after driving, the battery voltage drops to a minimum and remains.Starting then becomes irregular until battery is fully re-charged again with the battery charger...

This sounds a lot like a bad alternator. Places like Auto Zone can do a load test on your charging system to determine if you have an issue. They do this test for free.

My father's car has been sitting for the last 3 years. What should I do to get it running again?

Fully charge the battery with a battery charger. Pour a can of Seafoam or Techron fuel cleaner in the tank. Fill the tank with fresh fuel and hope it did not have much fuel in it when it was parked. It should start. If not, use starter fluid to get it going. Check the air pressure in the tires before driving. I would replace all the tires before driving at any speed for any long distance unless the car was stored inside. Make sure the brakes work before driving.

I left my car running over night now the car wont even crank im not sure if it is the battery or what but when i try to jump start it the light come on but it still doesnt start do u know what is wrong

Was the car still running when you got up? If not, then the battery went dead. This may have been the last hurray for the battery. Remove the battery cables and clean them. Fully charge the battery with a charger and if it still will not start the engine, remove the battery and have it tested.

Meter Explanation

You are correct on all accounts. A high number means you dying battery is sucking more juice from the Schumacker. A low number means the battery is not as thirsty. That's how I always think of how to read the meter on mine. Slow charge is a better, deeper charge. The quick charge will get you going, but you should maybe follow it up using the normal mode - car alternator and prolonged drive time. I never use quick charge, personally.
