I have a Mitsu Galant ES that has been in the shop for what seems like forever. I have replaced an alternator, numerous hoses, and now sensors....we are still failing SMOG. Help...what is next???
Re: California Smog Failure 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES
I am not a mechanic but an alternator should have nothing to do with smog it is the exhaust system not the eletrical system hope this clarifies things regards Jim

Use only Genuine Mitsubishi Car Care Products Diamond ATF SP III to
avoid Torque Converter Shudder and failure. I learned the hard way. My
local repair shop, a NAPA repair shop, used Ultralube Transtex ATF
Premium Dexron III/Mercon Performance. This fluid caused violent Torque
Converter Shudder which if not immediately flushed out could have led
to failure. After flushing and replacing with Diamond ATF SP III, the
Shudder is eliminated.
check fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, air filter. cat converter, O2 sensor. failure of any of these wastes fuel. air/fuel ratio should be normal.
dont know exsacly where is but should be where gear box meets engine and it sounds like the soliniod is stuck or gone or starter could be stuck in engine if manual put in gear and rock back and forward this may help relase it
are there any engine codes?engine light do you have the emissions report?
that will be most helpful if you have the gases sheet.
