This symptom almost always points to a mechanical issue, not an electrical one. The SLK hardtop is notorious for needing to be lubricated every couple of years. Here is a link with directions and photos:

Sticking joints are the most common culprit to intermittent raising and lowering problems. Once those have been lubricated and that has been checked off the list, then look into electrical issues.

It can also be a abs sensor gone but the roof will not operate at al, nsf (English) is the one that control the roof amongst other things, I changed mine and it works ok now, part number is 2025402317 L, you will find this on the sensor cable, very easy to change but there are two type, at least for the '99 model one with esp and one without, mine is the one with out so check if you have esp, if you do the above number will be wrong.

Where is the fill plug for 1999 mecedes slk 230 hydraulic roof pump

Should be a screw on top of the pump - upper right side.
It should fit a hex/allen/key size 5.
Oil level should be between min and max.
After filling, tighten screw with 8NM torque

If you look down through the "brush", you'll see the screw.

The screw on top of the pump is for the refill, the one on the side is to releave the preasure when you open the top manualy. There is a refill line on the side as well.

1999 mercedes benz slk hard top some times wont open and some time gets stuck down

Most likely the relay, located beside the motor is faulty. The contacts get sticky. The relay is about 30.00. Take the plastic cover off the motor and you will see the relay. Its a standard type so most decent shops will have them.

1999 slk 230 kompressor convertible top sticks halfway down, hydralic fluid looks brown is it possible fluid needs to be changed?

no the fluid doesn't need to be changed. it most likely is not seeing one of the micro-switches for the convertible top or the windows are not syncronized meaning the one touch/express mode is not working. to sync windows just open and close windows using the 1st detent on the window switch. when the window is fully closed hold switch for 3secs longer. as for the micro-switches the wiring sometimes breaks behind the headliner.

Just but an Mercedez SLK 230 Kompressor 1999 and the hard top will not go down.

First check that you have oil on the hydraulic pump that it is inside the trunk on the rear right fender the oil should be between the marks. If thats ok check when you put the ignition on if the switch that operates the roof is on, should be off, on means that something is wrong, if blinks 6 times one of the 5 or 7 switchs are not closed, check one by one. check the two that close the trunk at the middle, the cover, the trunk limit switch, the trunk switch

Top won't go down, sometines it won't go up

I have seen this problem many times. One of your microswitches is either giving a false reading or fell of its retaining bracket. It is much easier to diagnose with a scan tool. My first guess would be that your retractable cover in the trunk lost it's switch input. Check the switch that is contacted when your cover is pulled out. If that is o.k. look inside the hard top deck lid cover very carefully and you will probably see either a broken wire or a loose switch. You may have to manually close your top becuse the switch inputs are illogical. Your manual will tell you how to close your roof.

The moisture from the rain may be helping to lubricate these joints and that might be why it works fine in the rain...

1999 slk Mercedes Hydralic leak

The pumps rarely need replacing.

SLK top leaks are almost always caused by one (or more) of three hydraulic cylinders in a system of five cylinders. These three are the small latch cylinder located under the headliner, and the two larger cylinders that raise and lower the top located just behind both seats. The rod seals in all three are made using a proprietary material that is designed to break down over time. The other two cylinders in the system that raise and lower the trunk almost never go bad. This is because they are designed using the time tested Nitrile rubber O-rings, not the Novathan material that are in the other three.

Also, the SLK hardtop mechanical pivot points are notorious for needing to be greased every couple of years. When they stick, it seams as the pump does not have enough power to raise the top. Some times the pump gets blamed for symptoms that pertain to other problems.
