SOURCE: how do i check oil

Hi claude?
There is no deepstick for the engine oil. You can check your oil level from the steering wheel controls. Turn the ignition on, do not start the engine. press the page button till the milage and the trip miles are displaied. press the arrow button up or down till it comes up with engine oil level check, and wait till the engine has meassured the oil level.
If you want to change the oil, you need to measure how much oil comes out of the engine and put the same amount back in.

Why is there two oil dipsticks on my camry Toyota1996 ? Why does one say engine oil and the other is the long dip stick?!

The "oil" dipstick is for checking the level of oil in the engine; the other is for checking the fluid level in your automatic transmission.

How do you change oil in 2006 mb cls and reset service indicator

Practice now is to do a Top Side oil change. This means the engine oil is vacuumed out of the oil pan via the dip stick tube with an oil extractor..

Why ? Because this is quicker, doesn't need a hoist or pit and you don't have to remove the fiddly under covers to get to the drain plug..

Mercedes deliberately places the bottom of the dip stick to withing 1/16" th on an inch of the bottom of the oil pan.

Most if not all engines no have no dip stick, just a cover plug.
Oil level is checked with the cluster and scanner.

Setting is usually around 53mm on the scanner read out.

Oil filter is to the center right of the engine under a screw on plastic cover.

Mercedes special tool needed to unscrew it or generic tool available at auto parts stores.

Oil filter kit comes with large O ring for cover and oil filter element.

To reset FSS you turn to your handy owners hand book and read about the Oil Service Reminder Reset.

It explains how to use the steering wheel buttons and the 'R' button on the left of the cluster.

Trouble with car

Phantom coolant level warning which turned out to be erroneous. No problem found and no catastrophic meltdown. Just the inconvenience of having to take it into the dealer to be checked.
