Eng starts hard, runs good until the rpm is over 2200 then it stumbles my input voltage on the cam sensor is 5volts ,on most cars i've read should have 8volts where

The crank sensor input voltage is 5 volts. the engine code is po344,cam signal.where do I go from here?

I pulled the connectors off thecam &crank sensors, pulled the wire harness connector

I am sorry Greg this code is a synchronization problem. The computer reads that the engine is cranking by crank sensor pulses but does not see the cam shaft sensor pulsing voltage high to low and back a logic probe on signal return wire can test this with a signal LED it should flash yellow on a dual red and green should both flash alternating you can remove sensor and manually toggle sensor with a strong magnet waving it across sensor and watch logic probe.

Both crank and cam sensors have a 8 volt reference I have found the wiring melted together where it cross over transmission shorting out the signal. also test your reference voltage at the computer with circuit unplugged at sensor watch meter and wiggle wiring going back to computer this will help find faulty area.

I pulled the plugs on the cam & crank sensors and also the wire harness plug from the computer. Then I put 12 volts on the supply wire on the crank sensor harness. I prodded all of the wires at the computer harness end. I had continuity at only one point with no bleeding to any other wires. I did the same for the cam sensor then I put on the supply side of the crank harness and chedked the wire loom for continuity and it was fine with no bleeding to any other wires. I then found the wire that should have had 8 volts supply to the crank and cam sensor in the computer. With the key on I only had 5 volts no harness connected. I'm now thinking I have a bad computer, unless could I have missed something.? Thanks. Help Greg

I'm taking it in to the dealer to get the computer syncronized to the cam and crank sensors, we'll see how that goes . I'll report the findings Thanks Greg.Add a Comment

My thought is to get a refund from the shop that tried to replace parts in order to secure your problem. The job of the shop is to diagnose the problem, not to replace items that may be the problem. Chrysler Master Techs are not trained to just replace parts, they fix the problem by diagnosing it properly.

You need to see a Chrysler dealership so they can attach a DRBIII and tell you exactly what is at stake.

I hope this helps you. I would be mad as heck.

I would not think the plugs and wires would be the problem because they would all have to fail at the same time to provide the symptom you experienced.

SOURCE: how do you test the crank and cam sensors on 02

    TESTING OF CRANK SENSOR

    1. Use the fluke meter.
    2. Unplug the sensor, and backprobe the connector.
    3. Theres 3 slots, you want A and B on the connector going TO the sensor- not TO the engine.

    Normal resistance is 200ohms, +/- 75ohms.
275ohms to 125ohms...any higher or lower and it is recommended for replacement.

    MAP SENSOR TEST

    1. Disconnect at sensor, key on.
    2. Voltage from terminal A to terminal C =4.5 to 5 volts.
    3. Reconnect, and backprobe sensor at B= 4.5 to 5 volts.
    4. Start engine, backprobe sensor at B -AFTER idle stabilizes-- .5 to 1.5 volts.

theres a reflash program that needs to be done on these cars, because of extended crank time and cam / crank syhcronizing out, start there, also i had one with same code and found that aftermarket cam sensors dont work, installed dealer part and had the updated reflashing done and solved the problem.

the chances are good for the number 5 coil needing replacement, but before i did anything else i would change that cam sensor, that could be causing your problem all the way around.. hope this helps... setting timing is a big drawn out job, i dont think you will need to do that, timing shouldnt be out.

    Turns over wont start

Security light lit on the dash ? You say new coil pack , but is there spark ? Are the injectors turning on ? (squirting fuel ) Is there 5volt reference voltage at the sensors that are suppose to have it ? A shorted sensor can bring down the reference circuit in the PCM causing a crank - no start .
The powertrain control module (PCM) can supply 5 volts or 12 volts to the various sensors or switches. This is done through pull-up resistors to the regulated power supplies within the control module. In some cases, even an ordinary shop voltmeter will not give an accurate reading because the resistance is too low. Therefore, a DMM with at least 10 megaohms input impedance is required in order to ensure accurate voltage readings.
The PCM controls the output circuits by controlling the ground or the power feed circuit through the transistors or a device called an output driver module.
The engine coolant temp. sensor , fuel tank pressure sensor , MAP sensor .EGR valve , A/C refrigerant pressure sensor . The TPS sensors an the APP - accelerator pedal position sensors etc.. Any one of these sensors being shorted internally will bring the 5volt ref. circuit down , shutting down the PCM . Find one of these sensors an test for 5volts on the ref. circuit . If less then 5volts disconnect each sensor till you see 5volts on your volt meter .Then replace that sensor.

I have 1999 Volvo C70 2.3 Turbo and it won't rev past 4k rpm. It idles fine, but stumbles and hesitates when the pedal is pressed. The CEL is on and the codes are for a cylinder misfire and an oxygen sensor...

4000 rpm is pretty high..it may have a fuel cut off for extremely high operation to prevent blowing it up..why so high?? most run between 2200-3000rpm..not 4000...

    1989 lesabre stumbles and dies

I agree it sounds like the magnet for the cam sensor, or a problem in the wiring harness.
I don't think the engine will run with the cam sensor disconnected since it needs that signal to set base timing. It can run without the crank sensor once the engine starts.
There is a slight chance the timing chain is getting loose and affecting cam timing too. You may be loosing plastic teeth on the cam gear.

No power at fuel pump gry wire 1999 gmc z-71

NONE of the "sensors" would cause that. The sensor inputs have absolutely nothing to do with your fuel pump circuit until AFTER the engine is running. Even then, it is only because the PCM will shut the fuel pump off if rpm drops too low.

The GRAY wire should only have power for about 3 seconds when the key is first turned on. It will then not have power until the engine speed exceeds 700 RPM (assumed engine start).
