My county library system puts Chilton manuals online, with wiring diagrams, perhaps yours does too.

SOURCE: My 95 Honda Accord won't start. There's No spark from the coil

Take the distributor cap off and have someone crank the engine. Is the rotor button in the distributor turning? If not, you lost a timing belt. I went through your same senario.

SOURCE: 1991 honda accord "no spark"

There is a relay mounted way up under the dash on the driver side. It is about 1"x1"x2" and it says Mitsuba on it. This is the PGMFI relay, sometimes called the main relay or fuel injection relay. It is very likely the problem. You can buy another one, or there was a bulletin on how to repair it. You need to take it out, pop the cover off, and resolder the cracked solder joints on the pc board that the relays are mounted on. Really not that hard if you have a little soldering experience. If not, just buy another one, about 50 bucks.cb28323.jpg

Go to your local library and ask the Librarian to get you on-line to the Automotive Repair Reference Center, and then to the EBSCO database...you will find all of your wiring diagrams there.

SOURCE: 92 Honda accord no spark to the plugs I've changed

Check all of your grounds: There is one in front of the transmission leading from the negative wiring from your battery. Another goes from your battery wiring to the inside of your fender area. 10mm bolt. There is another on your driver's side motor mount to the valve cover. Check all relative fuses too.

or...

Main Relay : Up above your gas pedal. Above your cruise control computer. It will be a gray box or a brown box about 3" square. TO DIAGNOSE: Try to tap it while you try to start it, you might need a helper. If this is it... Don't buy a new one, just pry the cover off of it and look close to find the broken solder connection. Heat the faulty pin until the solder puddles around it and your good to go. It's smaller than a human hair, look close and you'll see the loose connection.

Testimonial: "I'm going to check that first thing in the morning.I really do appreciate your help with this the holidays are over.Thank you very much"

Why does it run well, then backfire and stall?

make, model, year? backfires are spontaneous burning (exploding) of unburnt fuel outside of the combustion chamber. suspect bad spark plug/s, ignition coils, ignition timing, computer, leaking fuel injector, etc. scan for trouble codes, then post back. because the problem is intermittent, problem manifests only when hot (engine at operating temperature) do tests for both cold & hot conditions. test resistances (ohm) of suspected sensors: cam & crankshaft position sensors, ignition coils (if possible),(search the web for the recommended procedures). also test voltages at the computer (search the web for the pin outs of the computer of your car). also check associated relays (like for the fuel pump, etc.) a bad relay may have its coil open when heated, then becomes good again when cold. i suspect the car may have a good fuel delivery but the sparks are not coming in on demand, thus backfiring.

Why wont my 2002 olds alero start when its cold out

One of the coil packs or the ignition module is probably bad. Test for spark when cold. If no spark on any coils suspect the ignition module or crank position sensor. If spark is gone on only one coil check the plugs and wires to that coil pack. If theplugs and wires are ok then replace thge coil pack. Don't forget the obvious load test the battery and clean the battery connections. If the check engine light is on run any diagnostic codes and repair

Are you sure that there is no spark, have you checked with a timing light? Are the wires on the coil connected correctly? Is the ignition module plugged in correctly and are all the wires on the distributor tight and correctly located? Try another ignition module from a system that is known to be working.

my name is Jerry Tiet. Base on my experience on 1998 Toyota Sienna with the DTC P0303 show there is a misfire in cylinder #3. a possible cause is the ignition coil of the #3 cylinder. Compare the resistance value of the ignition coil of cylinder #3 with the other coil or simply switch ignition coil #3 with one of the other ignition coil and clear the DTC with the scan tool. Then run engine for couple days. If the check engine light on again. Let me know what is the DTC code.

I have a 92 Honda accord that has been sitting idle for a long time and now wont start. Ignition lights are on and engine turns over but there is no spark from the coil to the distributor. I changed the...

Do not hotwire the "-" terminal on the coil. The ignition system modulates the "-" signal to release the sparks. Check the ignition fuse under the dashboard. If good, use a test light at the coil to check for voltage at the coil. If you don't have a test light, you can buy one at a parts store for a few dollars. Connect the test light clamp to engine ground and touch the point to the "+" terminal of the coil. If no voltage, suspect the ignition switch is bad. If there is voltage at the coil, suspect the ignition module is bad. If you have more questions, please let us know.

I have a missfire code on the check engine light. 1997 honda prel

Find out which cylinder is missfiring by using an inductive timing light to check each plug wire for spark. If you find a dead wire you should replace the all the wires and spark plugs. If you don't find a dead wire check the distributor cap. You could have a broken contact or a crack which might cause a loss of spark at one cylinder.

Honda wires are much better than their aftermarket counterparts so don't skimp there.

I hope this helps. Good luck and be careful!
