If you mean the hood will not lock down in a closed position the following applies.
It can be due to a stuck hood release cable or latch pivot that is out of sequence. With the cable problem, the cable remains pulled back in an OPEN position and the latch pivot will remain in an unlock position under the hood. For the latch pivot, the pivot has a V notch and is suppose to lay in an open position in order for the hood striker to trip it into a locked position. You may not be lined up, basically the pivot is flipped into a closed position and the striker hits its' top instead of its' V slot.

Rust or a broken pivot return spring can be the causes for this defect.

If you mean the hood will not move down from an open position, then that is a different problem. The small lift cylinders on each side of the hood may be jammed. Or the hood hinge could be defective. Be careful, some hoods are made of aluminum and bend easily if forced.

Hood will not shut.

Is it the latch that's keeping it from shutting or the stopper posts on each outside corner. Posts on outside corner are adjustable they screw in and out to adjust for slack in the hood. If they are too high the hood won't shut and latch.

I got an oil change yesterday & when it was done the guy could not get the hood locked. so i had a gap of an inch from the body of the car to the hood. it will not go down.

lift the hood and see if the hood has adjusters on the sides of it. if so they probably need to be turn down to shut hood. or something is blocking it from completely shutting.

1996 Chevy Blazer How can I get my hood lock mechinism from locked to unlock in order to shut my hood? I have used WD40 but it still won't shut I cant get the latch to move back in order to shut my hood...

you need two people one to pull the release handle for the hood ,the other needs a screw driver and put it in the latch and pull up to move the latch assy to the open position.

My hood will not latch all the way shut for my 99 rodeo

There are two rubber grommets located on the hood-one at each front corner. There are replacements that can be purchased at parts stores (Help brand-usually on those "spin-around-racks"-just ask parts guy you want hood bumpers. These come in different sizes (diameters)-the ones I found and used were a bit small. I used silicone to "fatten" them up. You will see they are adjustable by threading (rotating" them in the hole in your car's hood. What seems like your hood not latching is the hood is not held tight against the latch (constant pressure from the bumpers holding hood up). Your hood is just laying all the way down-you need the bumpers.
