I am working on a 2002 chrysler sebring. the timing belt is broken and thats all i know for right now. i have heard since it is an interference engine that a valve could have went right through the block. so my question is what are the chances of that happening and how hard is it to replace the timing belt of a 2.4 liter dual overhead cam 4cyl
The engine in your car is not an interference engine if it is a DOHC (Double Overhead Camshafts), if it is a SOHC (single Overhead Cam) then it is a interference engine u have bent valves and the head will need to come off for repair My reference Gates timing belt catalog. U will need a shop manual to replace the belt also a really good set of hand tools, u will also need to replace the water pump which is driven off the timing belt.

I have a question on my 2002 Sebring with the 3.0 engine the timing belt broke I thought about buying the timing belt kit to fix it cause I herd in the long run it would be better to do that so while its all apart I may as well fix what needs to be fixed but the question I have is will it be worth it will the engine need to be basically rebuit?
This answer is bassackwards according to the gates website.
