Battery on BMW 740i keeps dieing

A trickle charge takes several days to bring the battery back and the car runs fine for 4-5 days and then again will not start as the battery is dead.  I recharged the battery and the same thing happened.  After the 3rd time I took the car into the BMW dealer and they checked the battery and the voltage regulator and said that both were fine.  The car worked fine for about another 5 days and then died again.  I then had the battery checked at an Autozone store and they also said the battery was good.  The BMW service man said that there could be a parasitic drain on the battery causing the problem.  I had the car monitored over night and no parasitic drain was found.  The battery is around 4 years old and someone told me that even though the indicator says that the battery is fine........that may not be the case.  I'd appreciate your comments.

I also have a 2001 BMW 7401 and my battery goes dead every 1-3 days, the battery is only 1 ½ years old and also checks out fine. I had it to the garage about 5 weeks ago and they replaced a fan assembly under my dash. This involved removing the dash board. Well 3 days later the battery was dead again. Back to the garage for the last couple of weeks where they see a drain but it seems to cycle and not drain long enough for them localize it. BTW, my garage to an electrical specialist who also cant’s find the drain.

I plan on taking a shoot at it myself because i'm technical and have the meters to test.

it might be that there is some build up in the bottom of the battery case causing a short in the battery when moving it around you are removing the problem, i would replace the battery and see if the problem persists.

You need to disconnect one side of the battery, put one lead from an ampmeter on the battery post you have disconnected and the other ampmeter lead on the cable you took off the battery. with nothing turned on on the car , all doors closed the reading on the ampmeter should be no higher than 0.17 amp, if it reads a lot hgher go to the fusebox and remove one by one all the permanent supply fuses looking at the reading every time until you find the circuit that is causing the high reading, this will be the drain. alot of the time it can be central locking system playing up, boot light, glove box light not switching off, stereo wired wrong. hope this helps.

My battery died on my 1996 BMW Z3 roadster. I bought a new battery. I put it ithe car. Then I hooked up a trickle charger. Now the car won't start. Can anyone help me? Also, how can I tell if a fuse is...

can i ask why you put a trickle charge on a new battery ? also a trickle charger that is faulty will blow the ecu. its best not to use them on and vehicle from 90's and below as they were not designed to take them. modern cars have overloaders inbuilt into the ecu so lighting strikes etc don't do any damage and the engine will run on.

Battery completely drained after 45 mins of listening to cd player without car running,

a healthy battery will take a charge and discharge and be o k -you have several things going on-the ticking noise is some kinda rely that is turning on and off probably because of low voltage-the voltage jumping around sound like the alternator is giving up and is not fully charging battery-you may also have a drain on the battery that doesn't stop when you turn the key off like an extra power amp for the radio- you can take your car to autozone or advanced auto and they will check out the charging system for free and tell you what is going on-cheers Denny

BMW X3 Doesn't Start

Might be as simply as a new battery. Remove battery from vehicle and bring it to a repair shop or Sears Auto Center (they are the battery, and charging system Kings) and have them load test the battery. If battery fails purchase a new battery . Once the vehicle is up and running take it back to them and have them test the charging system and determine whether the vehicle has battery drain .

Bmw 530i which is better choice maintain or take battery off??

Hello. Definitely use a trickle charger to keep your battery charged throughout the winter.
And in no particular order consider the following:
1. Oil and filter change
2. Full fuel tank - actually necessary.
3. Car up on jack stands
4. Car washed and waxed, perhaps covered
5. Intake and exhaust covered with strong mesh screen to prevent rodent infestation (optional, depending on where the car will be stored; mandatory if stored outside)
6. Clean interior and remove anything that could decay (and stink!)
7. install trickle charger to keep car's battery and electronix fully powered
8. Deflate tires to 15 lbs pressure
9. Roll all windows down 1/2 inch to allow for ventilation (optional if storing outside and/or covering car)

Monthly: Start engine and allow to fast idle (1000-2000 rpm) for several minutes. Engage AC to circulate refrigerant oil and keep seals fresh

Car keeps dying

At first I would suspect the alternator isn't charging the battery -- Now that you mention 'SMOKE'.. Take/Tow your vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealership and pay the diagnostic fee... they will tell you exactly what the problem is and the cost of parts/labor to fix it... at least this way you'll know what the problem is and what's required to fix it.

Battery keeps dieing..jump start and runs for a few days and dies

Humm ...Didn't die before the accident? now dies? BMW has good mechanics, but could not find any problem???. I gota think that it is related to the rear ending, but how? I would look for loose connections, Battery Ground that might have been removed before welding.Battery terminals, Any primary connections that may not be making 100% contact . It's worth a try.Good Luck

if you have a multi meter disconnect positve battery terminal and put red wire to battery and black to battery cable put multi meter on resistance should be 0.005 or less if more then check for things that may be plugged in to cig lighter etc turn door lights off etc dont turn key on any more than 0.005 will drain battery
