Misfires, caughs and spudders under load until at warm operating temp

When I first start vehicle it idles fine unless you raise rpms to around 3000 then misfires and caughs out throttle body. Put it in reverse and it will die or barely stay running. You can put it in drive and take off ok untill you get around 30 or 40 mph then will cut out and not let you pick up any speed. The longer you drive it the better it gets.Wont throw any codes and have had numerous mechanics put a scanner on it and everything reads fine. Almost like comuter is forgeting everything it learns after sitting a couple hours.Or could be something temp.related.Maybe Cat converter? Its driving me crazy? Hopefully someone has had the same problem. Did have to put a rebuilt Tranny in it which was a joke because overdrive was trashed in the rebuilt tranny.

Ive tried 3 different pcm's from a junkyard in it. made sure part numbers matched and that they didnt have a security system and with all three it fires right up and dies. Dont understand what Im doing wrong. Do they all have a vin burned in them? Ive read other stories on forums that say they went to a junkyard and matched the part number and it worked great for them.

If it has distributer cap replace it --cud be u need a new computer or havit reflashed--bad ones dont show on a scan--a bad torque converter can mimic engine issues--bad ignition parts like coil-alternator or worn ignition module can also give these symtoms--even a bad themostat that doesnt let motor warm properly--each car is different--dirty throttlbody and idle air controlpossibl--since car is old running a data stream that displays values or voltages can pinpoint bettr then a 40$ scanner

Thanks for the ideas. Did change distributer cap.Not sure why reverse is so much worse. Did check all sensor values and voltage and everything looks fine. The torque converter could be bad because of the other issues the remanufactured tranny had. But would it misfire in every gear including neutral if you push enough rpms?

The switch is located on the side of the transmission. There is a 2-wire connection, (I believe they are coloured black/orange and red/white. If you unplug the connector and jump the 2 wires together the lights should go on. If they do then the switch is dead, if not there's something else wrong.

Chevy Malibu Cold Idle Problem

Check the water coolant thermostat. If it is stuck in the "open" position you are heating up all the water in the coolant system and this will take time. The thermostat keeps the water in the engine until warmed up to almost normal running temperature, only then does it allow the coolant to enter the radiator.

Try cleaning the throttle body (throttle body cleanner ONLY). Uncover the TB (engine off) & inspect the butterfly by moving the throttle by hand, if the underside & down inside the TB has a bunch of carbon (black soot) that could hamper with the idle! Also, check the fuel pressure @ the rail, under 60 psi could cause bad idle. Air filter clean? Did you make SURE that the terminals under the spider injector wiring harness has NO pins bent over during connection?! Also could check the throttle possition sensor & the mass air flow sensor if need be.

'98 subaru wont shift from 1st unless rpms are high- morning only

When you first start driving it usually takes atleast 4 miles to warm the transmission to operating temperature. The temp of the motor may say it is warmed up, But, the trans fluid and differential fluid only begins to warm as you drive and the parts are actually working. THe computer has sensors that keep the trans from shifting to OD until the temp is up as not to add stress to the motor until warmed properly. Hope this helps and have a good day.

Computer reads multiple misfires rough idle trouble starting

The air fuel mixture sensor is probably starting to fail. You need to have a simple diagnosis done at the shop and then have it replaced - they are usually not much a reputable mechanical shops. When the motor warms up your air/fuel mixture changes hence the rough idle etc. Hope this helps.
