I was told that my 2004 Corolla needs a new transmission because of front differential failure. In fact here's what they say exactly: "found driver side axle to have excessive freeplay due to front differential failure. Would need to replace transaxle assembly (transmission) and axle shaft assembly for correction." I am in the process of getting a second opinion. I am not sure what this means but I'd like to know is it true that I should replace my transmission. They are quoting me $4,500

Where is transmission range sensor at on 2008 Toyota corolla

It is located on the transmission itself. It is typically mounted on the outside of the transmission housing, near the gear selector lever linkage.
To locate the transmission range sensor on a 2008 Toyota Corolla, you may need to access the underside of the vehicle. It is generally found on the driver's side of the transmission, near the front or middle portion of the transmission case.

Find the filler plug for a 2004 chrysler sebring front differrential

The Sebring is a front wheel drive car. The transmission drives the two axles directly. You only need to check your transmission fluid. There is no differential like a rear axle style unit.

Grinding noise coming from front of car got told it was because there is no oil in diff? car is an auto are you meant to top up oil through the speedo drive ? did not think front wheel drives had a diff

The differential is in the transmission, just inside where your axles go into the transmission housing. It shares the oil with the rest of the transmission. I would get a second opinion.

Differential

Your car has what is called a transaxle. This is the transmission and traditional differential in one unit. There is no actual differential per say.

Typically operation noise will occur if the output gears are failing. It will be noisier on the deceleration than the acceleration. This is usually a whining noise. Sometimes this can be jerky during operation.

All of the instances you mentioned can cause a transaxle unit to fail.

Front end click on 5 speed corolla

Take a look at the ball-joint boots. Look for grease any where, under around the engine towards the back. My Subaru Legacy Outback does the same thing. I've changed both the front axles and ball-joints. Inspected other components, found nothing. Its coming from the differential, I just ignore it there isn't much I can do in my case. In your case it could be the ball joints or tie-rods, inspect those.

Front Differential Noise

How low is the mileage. From my experience this happens mostly with a vehicle that the driver doesn't engage the 4x4 often or poor maintenance. There is a possibility that there is a leak in the differential and you got premature wear from running without oil in differential. But for the record these trucks have a pretty good differential.
