You can reset the engine warning light by taking the earth lead off the battery and connecting it to the positive lead, then switch on the ignition,. Reconnect the earth lead to the battery and the light will have been reset. What you are doing is discharging the diagnostic chip to earth, which is exactly what the jaguar main dealer equipment does. This works on all cars.
PLEASE NOTE, make sure you disconnect the earth lead from the battery .

Just jumping the battery leads together will not cure the problem, as JPTcat suggests. However if you read my post it says that you have to turn the ignition on whilst the battery leads are together this completes the circuit to earth enabling the capacitors holding the chip voltage to be discharged thus clearing the chip memory. This has worked on my own S type, my wifes huyundia Amica, my sons Citroen Saxo and many of our friends cars. I am an electronics engineer of some 30 years experience and i gaurantee this will work.

I tried this exactly as described and everything reset back to zero(even the clock) EXCEPT the engine light. I am also an electrical engineer and the way this was explained makes complete sense but it DOES NOT reset the engine light.

On all Jaguars, by disconnecting and jumping the battery terminals does not work, the memory still holds the code.
The only way to reset the lights is with a OBDII scanner, you can pick them up for as little as $30.00. But there is a reason why the light is on, so if you do clear it without fixing the problem it will come back on. Also if you are trying to clear it just to get a smog, that won't work either, once the light has been reset, the vehicle must complete a series of readiness test that can take upto a hundred miles to compelte before you can smog the car.
Good luck

Just to let you know, my check engine light went on and I searched online for a cause since I didn't believe the codes at the auto store. Turns out the codes telling me vacuum leak were correct but it is a simple fix - new gas cap. I worked. Now I am buying an OBDII tester to be able to turn off the light when necessary to reset.

My car is a Jaguar 2003 S type with a 3.0 V6 engine, and since a few days there is a warning light in my dash . That warning said engine malfunction. Please do you have answer for thah . Thanks Y

Your car computer is trying to tell you something. go to a mechanic and put their tester on the out fit under the dash. They will tell you the problem. might just need resetting.

I have a2000 Jaguar Stype when I start car it idles but if I accelerate it bugs down and don't move .no engine power like if it does not get enough fuel

I see these throttle bodies fail a lot. Scan your codes if you have a check engine light on (autozone/ advanced auto does this for free if you can make it there)

Changed battery on my 2003 S-type v6, starts fine, runs fine but all the lights in the dash are on. How can I reset?

Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and connect it back up again and re-check.

Were these same warning lights displaying before the battery was replaced?

Our 2002 jaguar x type had a burst pipe we had it replaced by a mechanic but the engine warning light still remains on, the mechanic said it has to be switched via computer, how is this done?

Stop by any good parts store or shop and have them do an OBII scan (fault scan) this will pull codes and they can reset the light also. Most will do it FREE

Engine warning light came on yesterday in my 2005 S-Type R Jaguar. Can it be as simple as changing an air filter?

You can get a free scan at Autozone, Oreillys, or Advance autoparts. I have not heard of a warning light from an Air filter. There are some indicators in the Maintainence Minder for some vehicles in the drop-down Menu. This usually is for Oil Change intervals and is not the same light as a "check engine" warning.

Once set, the "Check" light usually has to be cleared or it will continue to show the old problem after it is fixed, for about 35 Start-ups. This means that unless the system is reset with a scanner, it will be some time before you know if your repair was successful. Most likely you have another problem which could be anything from a bad O2 Sensor to a loose gascap.

I hope you take my advice about the scan and that you found my solution very helpful.
