I too have a 05 GMC Canyon. Where is the starter located? Is it easiest to get to from the top of the truck or from underneath?
The starter is located on the drivers side and is not easy to get out can barely see it from under neath there is fuel lines wire harness and sensor in the way thats on the 2.8l 4 cylinder changed mine when i had the engine out.
Chuck R U in England where the cars R right hand drive. LMAO!!!
seriously please don't answer questions in a confusing way. The starter is located on the Driver's side which is the Left side here in the U.S. It is high right under the intake very hard to remove. Very poor job of engineering thanks to GM. Anyway some say you can go through the wheel well I will let everybody know as soon as I am done with this POC that has a 2.8L. Lol
The starter is located on the passenger/left side of the engine, you will need to disconnect the battery and jack the truck up and properly support it to remove the starter.
yes you will have to jack the vehicle up,you could probably remove the intake and do it that way but it would be easier and a lot less work to do it from underneath.
They are all wrong. On the canyon 4 cylinder you have to go in from the top. Battery and battery box, alternator, radiator hoses, and intake manifold has to be removed as well as all wiring disconnected on that side of engine. Air conditioner compressor has to be disconnected from engine and left front wheel needs to be removed and wheel well lining removed. This is a very difficult repair to perform and will require a couple of days and precise re-torquing of intake manifold to get it to run right. Starter is located on drivers side under dipstick, fuel lines, wiring harness and intake manifold. Go to www.355nation.net to find good instructions. Dealership will charge you over $1000 to perform this repair. A shade tree mechanic will charge $500 or more plus the parts. Will never buy another GM or Chevy.

Ok, I heard all I had to do was take off the intake manifold and it would be right there. I have the I4 2L engine. SO I do have to jack the truckand it is located underneath.
