Mazda Tribute 2002 engine cuts out randomly

My 2002 Tributes engine cuts out randomly.
Normally when parking and going from reverse to drive, but has happened also when driving along the road, without warning. The revs seems to be jumping up and down as well.
I've only had the vehicle under 2 weeks

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.

When slowing down & stopping 2005 Mazda tribute sputters and dies

Sounds like it could possibly be a vaccume problem, the computer sees that the vaccume has a low pressure and thus fludding the engine, or visa versa, it's seeing too high of a pressure and cutting the fuel comsumption to a minumum enough to make the engine sputter and die.. Does this happen when the cars in Netural or Reverse or Park? Just Drive?

There is a whistling sound underneath the brake pedal after I press the brake on my mazda 2005 tribute

The last poster is absolutely correct. The Brake Booster is leaking engine vaccuum into the vehicle through the firewall. This is a fairly common issue on older Tributes. There is an updated Brake Booster and Gasket available from Mazda. I do suggest replacing both the booster and gasket but just a gasket may do. Good luck.
