Fixed the altrnatior drove it home and the car died; and lost all power

What have you replaced recently? One man in UK replaced a relay unit in the igniton wiring with one that fit and worked perfectly for 11 minutes and 46 seconds exactly, then all power in the engine was lost. Turn the key to off, turn on, start engine, perfect for another 11 minutes and 46 seconds, ad infinitum.he drove 1100 miles including motorways with this fault, on, off, on, off....
At home he found that the relay that fitted perfectly was the type of relay for the rear window Heater on a French brand of car..the one which turns off after 11 minutes and 46 seconds.

There is no "kill" switch or anything that shuts down the fuel or ignition if it gets too hot...maybe there should be. It's hard to say if you fried it or not, not knowing how hot it got or how far you drove it. Based on the "it lost power and then died" I think you killed it.

Check the computer for trouble codes yet ?

there is a code in the pcm that will have to be checked out fix this

If it is an automatic transmission it probably needs transmission fluid. If a standard shift check and adjust shift linkage.

Check the harmonic balancer

Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

Have you found your problem yet? Sounds like your alternator went out. Not sure about the Overdrive off light coming on. But I used to have a Ford Ranger that did the same thing your car did.
