Before you start check the status of your choke. One that is stuck on will cause a high idle. If the choke checks out, proceed to the following:

You should have what's called a 2 needle carburetor. A larger screw adjustment for idle, and a smaller for high speed.

Start by adjusting your low speed (idle) needle until you reach the desired idle. I prefer about 850rpms. Do this with the engine running and adequately warmed so that your adjustments are not thrown off by the automatic choke.

Next slowly open up the high speed needle. As you open it your idle speed will gradually increase. Adust it in 1/8 turn increments, pausing after each adjustment to allow the changes to take affect. Keep opening it until you stop increasing your rpms, then take it back 1/8 of a turn.

Next readjust your idle mixture screw so that your idle is back down to 850rpms.

Driver seat belt worn half way thru .engine just started to idle high. door lights stay on,it is a 1992 4 dr hatch back w/70000 mi

I'm sorry, what is your question?

Your seat belt can be replaced - the seat belt has nothing to do with the engine idle, or the door light. The light stays on because the door switch needs adjustment or replaced or perhaps it has beenturned on by the light interior light switch that controls the dash board lights.

70,000 is not a lot of miles.

I suggest you have your vehicle tuned up aat a garage to fix the high idle and assure economical operation. That same mechanic may be able to advise you on the light and how to replace the seat belt. Your car may be running fast because of the cold weather to warm itself up. I dont know where you live.

Engine idle speed too fast some times. idle speed

Three things to check for:

1) High idle switch is on..*(vehicle thinks AC is running but it isn't.
You can try turning on the AC and see if the engine slows down to confirm this one.

2) Sticking or worn out Idle Air Control or IAC, You might get a check engine light with this one.....you might not if it's a mechanical failure.

3) Simplest of all. A vacuum leak. You can get the engine vacuum read while running if you go to a mechanic with a vacuum guage or an OBD 2 ecu code reader. There should be specs on what vacuum levels are normal for you car at idle.

Good luck and be careful!

ENgine idles too low and sometimes turns off?

If it has'nt been tuned up lately ----check tune and basically sounds like the throttle body idle circuit is plugged up with carbon----try spraying with a carburator cleaner.

Were is the automatic choke situated my car is revving to high

Your car doesn't have a choke. Fuel injected engines alter the mixture using information from the sensors to give the right mixture all the time, thus negating the need for a choke. This is only for carbureted engines, and your car is not. If it's idling fast, you can change the settings on your idle set screw, or have it tuned.

Is it a Gas Choke

how many miles on this car? providing the choke is all the way open at operating temps and the engine is still not smooth and the tune-up parts are new, i would search for a vacuum leak somewhere on the intake manifold and carb. using carb cleaner with engine running spray around intake and lower carb if idle changes, you have found a leak. make sure the choke is working properly!! dirty fuel tank is possible but not likely, with a tune-up i would assume the fuel filter was changed. was it dirty? was the timing checked? does car run well at speed driving down the road?

Honda civic 1992 twin carburators model.

I dont know where do you live, but honda civic 1992 don use carburator, they are fuel injection, you can have coolant temp sensor problem, or map sensor problem, run diagnose jumping the diagnose wires loated in the passenger side, kick panell close to the door wall, better get the repair book in the parts store to locate the conector ,and read how you can run the diagnosis
