bell housings are made to fit the engine not the transmission as the transmission is used across a range of manufacturers so if the bell housing is of an engine that is the same as yours then it should fit your transmission

check for 2 at the top of the bell housing

Yes the engine has to be out,its not a easy task to replace transmission.You will required professional tools and wrench/ratchets.
Also its very time consuming.

If it's an oil dip stick tube and it presses into the bottom of the engine block. There should be a mount on the tube with a bolt whole that bolts to the block. If it is a Transmission Tube for automatic the same thing but bolts to the bell housing bolt top left of bell housing. Good Luck. Have a great day. Eddy the Master Mechanic.

Crank angle sensor located between engine and transmission.On top of bell housing, drivers side.

The crankshaft position sensor is on the right side of the engine just to the rear of the right hand exhaust manifold, the sensor is attached to the block with two bolts, part of the sensor overhangs the transmission bell housing. Look at the bell housing and start going up, you will see the sensor almost inline with the right exhaust manifold. It has a gromment that overhangs the transmissions bell housing. Use a flashlight from below and you will see it,

Totally forget about changing an automatic car to standard. That would be a very parts & labor intensive switch and is out of the question. If you have the same year and size engine this will be an easy swap. Just remove the donor engine leaving the bell housing and transmission in place in the donor car. Remove the engine from your car leaving the bell housing and transmission in place. Bolt the donor engine to your old bell housing and you are all set. Mark all connections as to not get confused. A digital camera will be of help in taking photos of how things are hooked up.
