Changed the water pump, but the timing is off...1994 rodeo

I repalced the water pump on my 1994 isuzu rodeo and now the timing is off...won't start. Is there a way to set the timing with out a light? I looked for marks on the belt, but there are none. Can a person find a diagram? There's a notch on the crank gear and some painted marks on the cam gears...How do I line these up? thanks.

I just did this on my 1999 rodeo so my answer might not be perfect for yours but I will try. The two cam gears on mine have a paint mark on them that lines up with two marks that are on each of the cam covers. The marks on the cam gears ended up pointing at about 10:30 o clock on the passenger side and 1:30 on the drivers side. Now at the same time that you have the cams lined up as I said, you need to have the crank pulley (dampner) lined up also. The mark for the crank was on the dampner itself as the dampner can only be bolted on one way. The mark that was on the block was at about 3 o clock.

Make sure not to move these gears indepentedntly too much so you dont bend any valves. you will not be able to use a light to do the timing when the internal timing is incorrect. Also, the computer in the car probably is setting the timing, co if you try to change in externally with a light the computer will most likely adjust itself back to where it wants to be.

Remember how engine crankshaft has to work with camshaft.
Normally both rollers should have notches. Painted mark could be correct (but is not original notches should point to each other. check this after tensioning. also crank camshaft without belt to see what it does when. That will assure

How to videos of replacing waterpump on 1994 isuzu rodeo 3.2 ltr. 4x4

This procedure is not for the novice. The water pump is driven via the timing belt. It is recommended that the belt be replaced at the same time as the pump. There is serious risk of engine damage (valves/pistons) if you accidentally move the camshaft or crankshaft from proper alignment when removing or replacing the belt/pump, and it is extremely easy to do just that while trying to position the belt. Unless you are very skilled at engine repair, you should leave this one to someone who is skilled at it.

Water pump replacement 96 isuzu rodeo

Remove belt, fan, fan shroud and fan bracket. Remove timing covers, timing belt and water pump. Replace timing belt and the hydraulic tensioner with new ones. I suggest you get a mechanic to do this as you can easly get it out of time. Not an easy job.

1997 Isuzu Rodeo 2wheel drive. Repalced

Get a Beck Arnley alternator. The auto-zone, Napa etc. alternators are a problem for Isuzu's. I worked at a dealership and a lot of them came in for this problem. If you still have the original have it rebuilt. Check yellow pages.
