2003 Lincoln LS check engine light

Replaced a coil pack a few weeks ago, now the car will suddenly shutdown with an ETC safe engine mode light on. Turn car off and it is cleared to proceed as normal until it happens again. This was happening under acceleration but happens coasting down as well. I also now have a Check engine indication all the time, code #s are P2107 and 2110, TAC controls, limited RPM.

The 2003 LS is a V8.. All I can figure is that I need to go back in and change out all the coils at the same time. Check the condition to see if they are wet with oil or anything else. Curious to see if anyone else had these symptons as well. Its my daughters car.

I had the same problem with a 2004 LS. I took it to the dealer and turned out that 6 ignition coils were out and was factory defect. Ford extended the warranty for the ignition coil. All work and parts "no charge" this service was done about a month ago

Etc engine fail safe mode

Have you replaced ignition coils on this car previously? If so, did you use OEM Motorcraft coils, not aftermarket? The aftermarket coils do not play well with the PCM on this car, causing it to do goofy things including having it go into the ETC Failsafe mode. This is likely your issue since coil issues are common on this car. If it is not, let me know

I have a 2006 lincoln ls with 105,000. My problem started about a month ago when ETC failsafe mode appeared. I had the codes read and it was a bad throttle body which i replaced with OEM. About a week...

I would try to have your mechanic keep on it. He should be able to track it down, now that he knows the ECM is good. Maybe you have some wiring issues, like a harness that got too close to hot exhaust and melted some wires.

ETC Fail Safe -- is a very bad COP Ignition Coil
can not use the car in that condition

The trans issue --- is a bad Solenoid Pressure Control

I have a 2005 Lincoln LS. 3.9 v8. The problem started about two months ago. At first, about once a week, the ETC failure safe mode would come on. I could pull over and restart the car and the problem...

You never needed a dealer
You can forget the RF theory, the PCM is inside, behind the glove box
The Throttle Body is $578 at Lincoln, $638 at Ford,if the Throttle Actuator Motor failed (2107 & 2110),but it didn't,just got the code.

You should have PO 301 thru PO 308 codes, all others you disregard

You buy one new coil $59.00 at auto parts store, and it walk down cylinders, until you get the one, spiking the PCM,coming back on the TPS Sensor, then back to PCM,putting it into ETC Failsafe (Electronic Throttle Control) like toyota---drive by wire.

You need a 7mm socket to remove the coil covers and coils,on top of valve covers.

If it was a V6- you get problems, need to remove intake to get to 3 plugs.

2003 Lincoln LS V8, Won't turn over after errors

Forget the four coils. That is a common problem, but I would question 4 failing.
The ABS ,Parking Brake,Speedo Etc,where nothing to worry about, you were loosing power, when it went to fail safe,so they came up.

ETC -is Electronic Throttle Control, your problem? Maybe
You will need to have a scanner put on it's,daignostic connector under the dash,to check for codes. Them only a trained technician can follow a chart or test proceedure to properly repair.
I have a 2004 LS,one of Ford most high tech and complicated vehicles.
Conclusion: only a professional can repair you car.
I would start with a local shop. If money you have money to throw away,go to a dealer.
Most likely have to wave to it on a flat bed carrier. Don't flat tow it.

Does the etc engine fail safe mode engage when driving 20mpg or less in snow? I love 2003 lincoln LS. This question is not addressed in the owner's guide.

the engine fail safe [limp mode] engages for or when the engine/trans senses damage or something that can cause extreme damage[ no oil pressure] the limp mode is so u can safely get off road or to a service location

ETC fail safe mode appeared on screen-what is this?

Electronic Timing Control. Has to do with your coil packs/spark plugs. There was a recall on this, check with your dealer for a TSB on the issue. Car running rough?

2005 lincoln ls going into etc failsafe mode

I had to replace 4 different coils on my '02 LS before it finally stopped misfiring. After one code and coil replaced it would go to the next one. I had to replace them in this order, 2,3,7,8

When # 7 was misfiring it wouldn't even pull a code all of the time, the check engine light would come on one day then go off the next, really strange.

Lincoln LS 2003

my etc light came on and i took to the lincoln dealer it was my fuel system and it had to be replaced for the tune of 800 dollars. after that it ran fine for about a month then i hit a hump then it went into etc mode again. i then took it back to lincoln they did not see a code or that it even went into etc mode because i cut the car off and turned it back on it ran fine but once you cut it off it resets itself it did this about 10 more times and never came back on again knock on woods no problems but it started missing and the check engine light came on it was a misfire in cylinder 4 and it replaced the spark plug myself and it has ran find ever since. I was told anytime the etc light comes on it due to fuel or transmission
