Temperature warning light coming on,on a 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI

Temperature warning light coming on
on my 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTI 8V 2E motor,
the temperature warning light comes on at odd times though the actual temperature gauge shows a normal reading and the coolent level is within the min and the max level. Please advise.
Could it be sensors or thermostat or coolent bottle cap.

The thermostat will show what the guage shows. the seal on the coolent bottle can be checked for tightness. so it could be a faulty sensor?

The temperature warning sensor must be leaking slightly or is shorting .inspect the switch and replace if need be.

I drive a 1997 golf 3 GTI 16V. The car can't start when the oil temperature goes beyond 88 degrees celsius from the onboard computer, I have to wait for it to cool down for a while before starting. What...

Did you resolve this?
I drive a mk3 golf GTI 8V and mine starts fine but after driving for about 3 minutes (engine warms up) it starts to misfire, the car stalls and then you can't start it again until the engine has cooled. Does this sound similar?

Oil around 1 spark plug well.

More than likely you have a leaking valve cover gastet. Not a head gasket.
