Get a buddy, maybe some beer, and bleed the brakes. one person pumps the peddle untill it is hard to push in, the other quickly and slightly opens the bleeder valve, if the person pumping the brakes foot hits the floor, the bleeder valve was not closed quick enough. its a litle tricky the first round. but to open and close in one motion is the ideal way. and this will involve shooting brake fluid out. protect your eyes and paint on car.. hold a rag over the top or slip a small hose over the bleeder valve to redirect the direction of the fluid.. or take it to a shop.

Spongy brakes

Do not drive the car. Check brake fluid level, if low fill. Spongy usually means air in the brake line. This requires bleeding the brakes.

Spongy brakes are caused by air in the hydraulic lines, or old/weakened brake hoses. They may also feel sponger if the brake pads/shoes are excessively worn.

Spongy brakes

So long as the brake booster is working, test it by turning on the engine, press the brake pedal all the way down, then shut off engine keeping your foot on the brake pedal, if the pedal comes up slightly pushing against your foot then the booster IS working.

Did you BLEED the brakes??????

Spongy brakes on a 1992 honda civic

You have to bleed all the air out of the system, if you did then your rotors may need to changed. But if they are spongy it's air in the lines.

Brakes are still spongy after changing the pads, one caliper, and master cylinder. bled front brakes.

I just went to Brake Masters this morning and had them replace the Master Cylinder since I was experiencing the pedal very spongy and going to the floor. When they replaced the Master Cylinder and they gave me back the car, the brakes were still spongy and going to the floor. I addressed this to them and they took another look at it, but when I took it for a second time, the brakes were extremely spongy. It was almost like they gave me back my car in worst condition to when I brought it in. Can you help?

Changed caliper on 2005 ford freestar and now brakes are spongie.

Use a vacuum pump brake bleeder starting at the furthest point from the master cylinder. They cost abt $35. Be sure to keep master cylinder full... :)

SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL

spongy brake pedal indicates air in the system... have the brakes inspected for leaks as it leaks when you apply the brakes and sucks in air when you release them.
