If you're only blowing the fuse while the trailer is plugged in, the problem is in the trailer/wiring. This takes into account that the truck has a factory installed 7 way receptacle. If that's not the case, the problem can be in the incorrectly wired truck and the trailer is ok.

On the truck, looking into the 7 way receptacle should be as follows.
Top left=Tail Lights
Top right=12v steady source/charge line
Left middle=Left turn/brake
Right middle=Right turn/brake
Left bottom=ground
Right bottom=brake controller output
Center=reverse lights if your trailer is equipped.

Your trailer plug should mirror this.

This is the standard.

SOURCE: engine 1 fuse keeps blowing when you turn the key

Engine 1 fuse powers the computer and some sensors. I had this same problem on a 98 chevy van 3500 and found the wire going to one of the oxygen sensors had shorted out on the heat shield. Inspect the wires going to all of the oxygen sensors. On this van one of the oxygen sensors on the driverside the wire was laying on the heat shield which eventually rubbed through the wire and shorted it out blowing the fuse. Your short could be on a different sensor but check all of the oxygen sensors because the wire runs so close to the sharp heat shield.

you obviously have a short to ground on one of the wires to the back (if it was the front the brake shouldn't blow the fuse). the most common problem is usually in a trailer light harness. if you look under the drivers side rear of the truck, down under the tail light there will be a plugin junction. pull this plug-in apart and see if the fuse still blows. if it does then the problem is forward of that connector, if it doesn't then the problem is behind that plugin. be sure to check for "green death" (electrical corrosion) at all joints especially any trailer hook ups.

I have a 2006 chevy express van, I am trying to wire up lights for a trailer. I have brake lights, turn signal lights but no tail lights? All lights and wiring are new.

Check for power at the splice/connector. Also check fuses as it should have different fuses for trailer lighting. Also Try this site http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. Full of useful info.

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu. and recently, the interrior lights and Instrument/tail lights fuses keep blowing out. I replace them, and the next day or sometimes within hours they fuses will be blown again....

You are correct, now to find out what circuit is blowing the fuse.If the car was in a accident check that area first.Chances are its interrior or running lights.lets start with interrior lights, install new fuse turn on interrior lights on for 1/2 hour.if fuse blows remove interrior lamp lenses and look for one of the hot wires to be shorted out on the body.To check the tail lights turn off the interrior lights and turn on the running lights. If fuse blows start with any damaged areas, check the trunk area for damage to the wire harness,if you have a trailer hitch chcek the trailer harness for damage.theres no easy fix here, hope I have been some help. Thanks for using FixYa......Ray

I have a 1997 chevy silverado and I keep having a fuse blow that makes my hazzard lights and brake lights not work plz help me

If you have a trailer hook up, check that the wiring is not touching ground. Constant fuse blowing is an indication of a short to ground.
