Rear passenger door will not open

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the rear door will not open...one day I had trouble closing the door...it seemed like it would not latch so we shut the door pretty hard and now the door will not open. Also, how can I tell if the child safety door latch is not latched?
I need some help before I wreck the door!!!!
Thanks, Kris

I bought my Cherokee new and until 06 I never had a problem with the doors. When 1 latch went all the others went shortly thereafter. You WILL HAVE to replace the latches. I've done all 4 doors and the rear latch. You can do it relatively easy but the latch NEEDS to be replaced. You may get it to work every now and then, but it will FAIL again, just replace it and you'll be happy.

If the door won't open from either the inside or outside than there is a problem with the latch assembly or alignment. You can use the other rear door to see how the child lock works. Meanwhile, you'll have to remove the door panel on the right rear door from inside the vehicle. Then you can reach inside with a screwdriver and flashlight and work the latch free. Once you get it open you can further diagnose if it is alignment or a faulty latch assembly. It's not going to be easy getting the door panel off from inside or working the latch to release. I hope this helps.

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee - The rear passenger side door is locked and will not open. I cannot open from the inside - missing the manual.

sounds like the child lock is on and the outside mechanism is broke ,difficult job as you will have to open door by removing the door panel in situ

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Problem - Jammed rear passenger door - took off door skin but their is metal covering the problem area (where the mechanism is) - can't get at it. How would you go about fixing...

Hope you mean that you removed the inner cover....Generally the most common cause of latch being stuck is that the solenoid that operates the door lock gets jammed. remove the arm linkage that connects the solenoid to the lock and try moving the levers by hand. (you need to reach up into the door to do that even with the door open...its not really easy but is do-able) Most times it is easier to work inside with the window up.

Jeep 2001 Cherokee Sport Rear Passenger door was hit. Lights will not go out.

Can you open the door? Most likely the door is not making (enough) contact with the plunger which shuts off the lights. If you can get to this plunger, until you get the door fixed, either tape the plunger to the "in" position, or tape something to the door itself to close the gap between the door and the plunger to make the plunger go in. I have had to use quarters (25cents) and duck tape until more permanent repasirs could be made.
Also: there should be on your dash: panel and interior light dimmer/turn off switch. You can turn this/set this so the interior lights do not come on at all.

2001 jeep heater on passenger side not working

there should be a small valve attached to a hose coming from the engine into the firewall this valve directs the hot engine coolant into the heater radiator in the heater box it probably is closed open it and, you should have heat then: it should be easy to find the reason it was closed

2001 Jeep grand Cherokee

You need to turn the feature of last door closed. This located above the rear view mirror. Just push one the button that will lead you to the feature of last door open to be lock. Unlock and save the changes. It is also in your manual if you have them.
