My 1999 jeep Grand cherokee 4.0 l6 is at it again. its almost 2 months without moving.Initially it threw codes P1391,0720 and 201 or 301(not sure).and now it cranks but cant start. The problem started after i filled the gas tank to its bream.A few distance from the gas station it started stalling with no engine power. It was as if the fuel was pulsating.later on it improved and i managed to get to my destination.Parked it for a weekend. When i started it the idling wasn't good more especially on reverse gear.it was shaking.drove it and it died within a short distance.I tried to start it the following morning, and will start sputter and die within 30 sec (worsen when u press gas paddle),I bought injectors (upgraded 4 hole) and it worsened .the engine will ignite, sputter and die immediately. I changed crank shaft sensor, no difference. OBD codes cant display coz I had removed the battery terminals. There is fiel in the fuel rail.we tried spraying starting fluid into the throttle body,it did the same thing.starting and cutting instantly. It produces a popping sound by the throttle body as if its back firing or returning fuel mixture.

We need tat you confirm us exactly what fault code is stored there, in order to solve the problem step by step. Try turning the ignition key (with out start engine) three times, ON/OFF ON/OFF ON and read Pxxx codes on the Odometer, note it and replay with this data.

Goos luck.

No codes in OBD. I suspect that the ECU reset its self.

Could be; pay attention at code P0201, likely to be set up if there is an injector #1, and the P0301 refer at misfire malfunction on injector #1. Check it.

Did you get a chance to look at a possible stuck EGRvalve?
Since you have been digging fairly deep for the problem do you have a coil or distributor cap that might be the problem.
more often than not its a problem with something electrical, seems to me you allready have the possibillity of it being a fuel problem out of the way for now.
good luck,Gary

SOURCE: 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo starting problems

Check to see if the fuel pump is running after it shuts down...could be a relay or the pump itself (overheating internally) Checked the fuel filter yet? Some crank sensors need to be shimmed. If it's too close to the flywheel even though you recently changed it, if it's too close to the wheel it can fail again. May not be the case but worth checking over. Also check the ceramic resistor on the left fender near the master cylinder if you have one. That too can cause problems.

Sounds more like a timing problem than an O2 Sensor. Distributor out of Sync would be my guess. It ran better at Higher idles because the timing belt/chain was tight from tension at low idle the timing was off which caused your problems. Now the belt is either broken or so loose the timing is out and the vehicle won't fire. If it has a Distributor cap remove it and watch the rotor. If it turns the belt is intact but Timing may still be off.

I have a p 1391 code on a 1999 jeep grand cherokee 4.7 liter v-8 engine. I just installed a Camshaft position sensor and also the ECM. I initially installed these two parts and started the vehicle up and...

you should check the crank position sensor . The plug may need to be tightened up or its pins bent a bit to make a better connection. Has any other work been done recently?
