SOURCE: Is it remotely possible/reasonable thet

You don't have to take that off (and you don't want to, as I found out--getting that spring back on is a pain!). I used a vice grips to loosen it, then got if off with a small open-face wrench (12mm).

Could very well be. Not uncommon on this model. If it is you will most likely have to have a heli-coil installed in head .

Can i possibly pull a 3.4 out the top from a 2001 olds sillouette van, i pulled one from a 2003 dodge caravan, it was tough but it worked. can it also be done in the olds. i dont have a hoist or accsess to...

Its going be tough to pull out anything other than a small 4 cylinder without a hoist. You could use a comealong. Its like a small hoist, has a chain and a lever you can use to lift the engine. It has a hook on it to allow you to attach it to something.

But to be able to use it you need to put the car underneath something that is sturdy enough to support the weight of the engine, like a large limb on a tree or a metal frame of a garage or something like that.
And you will need a sturdy chain. The bigger the better. Attach the chain to your engine lift hooks.
Get some grade 8 screws, nuts and washers from home depot. Get the largest diameter screws that will fit through the links of the chain. Make a loop on each end of the chain by putting the screws through links and tightening the nuts on the screws. Put the loops you made on the engine lift hooks. Attach the come along to the tree or whatever you can find thats sturdy enough to support the weight of the engine with another chain. Then lift the engine out.

you will have to detach the ac compressor and power steering pump and tie them out of the way with pieces of wire. That way you wont have to discharge the ac system or drain the power steering fluid. Remove coolant hoses and fuel lines. And remove the half shafts for front wheel drive. Then detach the motor mounts/transmission mounts. Of course, theres a lot of other stuff you need to detach, but im sure you know that already.

You can rent engine hoists for like $35 a day from a Taylor Rental or other equipment rental
company. Rent it one day and take it back and rent it another day when you are ready to
put the engine or another engine back in.

I have a 1998 Dodge Avenger with a 2.0 (4cyl). Does anyone know of any tricks to remove the passenger side motor mount to engine bolts without removing the engine from the car ????

Put the car on stands and put a jack within a few inches of the under side of the engine. Loosen the bolt mounts by about have a turn. Have a friend use a length of timber and use jack top as a lever fulcrum to take the weight of the engine off the mount whilst you remove the mounting bolts. Take care not to put any load on the oil pan as it can crush quite easily. You should be able to adjust the engine attitude about two inches without having to detach anything, this is enough room to get the old mount out and therefore the new one in. Take your time and keep safe

I need to find out how to take off and put on a starter on a 2004 chevy tracker

TESTING WARNING
During the following test, the starter motor must not be energized for longer than 5 seconds, otherwise you run the risk of burning out the starter motor coil.
  1. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
  2. Detach the field coil lead from terminal M on the starter motor.
  3. Using jumper wires, connect a 12 volt battery to the starter motor so that the negative battery terminal is attached to the starter motor housing and to solenoid terminal M, and that the positive battery terminal is connected to starter motor solenoid terminal S. The starter motor plunger should move outward; if it does not, replace the solenoid with a new one. Fig. 1: To test the solenoid plunger, first detach the field coil lead from alternator terminal M, then attach a 12 volt battery to the starter motor as shown . . . 90882g50.gif
Fig. 2: . . . then detach the negative jumper wire from terminal M. The plunger should remain extended 90882g51.gif
Fig. 3: Detach the other negative lead from the starter motor housing. The solenoid plunger should now retract to its normal resting position 90882g52.gif
Fig. 4: Use an ammeter to measure the amount of current draw the starter motor uses 90882g53.gif

  4. Detach the negative battery jumper wire from terminal M on the starter motor solenoid, and check the plunger for movement. The plunger should remain extended; if the plunger returns to its resting position, replace the solenoid with a new one.
  5. While observing the solenoid plunger, detach the negative battery lead from the starter motor housing. The plunger should return to its normal resting position; if it does not, replace the solenoid with a new one.
  6. Reattach the 12 volt battery and install an ammeter to the starter motor as shown in the accompanying illustration. The starter motor should rotate smoothly and steadily with the pinion gear moving out, and the ammeter should display less than 60 amps at 11.5 volts (Samurai models), or 90 amps at 11 volts (Sidekick, Tracker, X-90 and Sidekick Sport models). If the ammeter does not display the specified values, or if the starter motor does not operate smoothly and steadily, replace the starter motor with a new one.
---
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary for added under-vehicle clearance, apply the parking brake, block the rear wheels, then raise and safely support the front of the vehicle on jackstands.
  3. From beneath the vehicle, label and detach all wiring from the starter motor solenoid terminals.
  4. Remove one of the two starter motor mounting bolts and loosen the other bolt until it can be turned by hand, then support the starter motor with one hand while removing the last starter motor mounting bolt.
  5. Lower the starter motor down and away from the engine and transmission. To install:
  6. Hold the starter motor in position and install the two mounting bolts. Tighten the two bolts securely.
  7. Reattach all applicable wiring to the starter motor solenoid. Ensure that the wiring terminals and connectors are clean and free of corrosion.
  8. If necessary, lower the vehicle.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
