This may work if you are cetain that the vehicle has a flashing securt=ity light on when trying to start the vehicale or even with the key just in the "run" position. Turn the key on and leave it in the on position for approximately 15 to 30 minutes. (make sure that you have a substantial battery to perform this or a battery charger on the vehicle during this process) Leave the key on until the security light goes on solid. (stops flashing) turn the key off and then attempt to start the engine. If light begins to flash again, then there is something wrong with signal being sent to the body control module(BCM) from the ignition switch's key code. If it starts and the light goes off, all is well for now. there could be an intermittent problem in the VATS system. If the light DOES flash again and the no start is still present, you will need to have it looked at and diagnosed by a professional to determine the security breach.

SOURCE: 1997 chervolet venture radio reset codes

I had the same problem with a 97 transport. Here is a couple solution to your locked radio problem. This is assuming you have the ACDelco radio original to the vehicle. One way is to allow the vehicle to warm for an hour. After warming the vehicle press either the 1/2 or 3/4 or 5/6 buttons together. In two on the sequences, a three digit code will come up. Write these codes down. I called the original seller of the vehicle, (if known) or a GM dealer. Speak with the parts or service department. They do not have the 4 digit code to unlock the stereo, though they can make a call to ACDelco and get the code. The other way is to take it to a dealer and have them erase the code, which is approx. 30-50 dollar depending on the service station. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1997 chevy malibu anti theft system how do I fix

The late-90's GM Passlock system (e.g. 1997 Malibu, Regal, Impala, etc.) has a part around the ignition tumbler that goes bad and no longer reliably detects the valid key. In that situation, the "Theft System" light will slowly flash and the carburetor is cut off so the engine won't start. The time-out on the system is 10 minutes - you don't have to do anything, you don't have to disconnect the battery, the key can be out of the ignition -- it's just a time delay. After 10 minutes, the light goes out and you can try again (but if the key is again not detected, the light will start flashing again and you have to wait another 10 minutes)
Someone else, who had this problem, told me to remove all other keys from my keyring. The weight of the other keys pulls on the ignition key causing the key to be unreadable. It has been 7 weeks since I have been doing this and have not had a problem

SOURCE: will a keyless entry fob reset the antitheft in a 2005 Monte Carlo?

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM. (Theft Deterrent Module) The TDM is what tells your computer that the correct key is being used and that it is "OK" to allow the vehicle to start and run. These 3 parts must be in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending important signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, (normally due to a failing/broken part) the car goes into antitheft mode. The car misinterperates this and thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is NOT getting that signal from YOUR specific key. There is where the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. So basically, if that light is on, your system has some sort of failing part. This can start as an intermittent "no start", to your vehicle not running for days at a time, to the vehicle NEVER starting again. The problem is electrical and computer based, so don't count on an easy reset button, or the problem fixing itself. The hard part is isolating which part is the problem. You can spend a thousand dollars through a mechanic very easily. I have had great luck with bypassing the entire system. This way the problem will never return. It actually CAN'T ever return because it is eliminated. This can also be done yourself at a much cheaper cost. Read through this link very carefully. You'll find alot of information and pictures, along with ways to help you fix this.

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

Does anyone know how to reprogram antitheft for 1998 Ford E150 Club Wagon?

Didn't I answer this yesterday?

If what was stated in the manual didn't work, perhaps you have a further problem? Call out a mobile auto-electrician, or auto-locksmith with a pro grade scan tool computer to check the module, and keys.

Anti theft mode can only be reset by a factory tech....Sorry......If You get it Reset, I recommend that You do not hang a bunch of keys and trinkets from Your Key Ring.....The extra weight can damage the ignition switch and cause the switch to not read the key......

If I put a new ignition switch in a 97 camero does the security system need to be reprogrammed?

Yes and no. The vats system is not reprogramable like the newer passlock and passkey systems. It must be replaced with a original GM part. No after market. If not, the antitheft system can't pass on the correct signal from the key to the theft deterrent module, and the antitheft system will shut off the starter and/or the fuel injectors. It IS possible to bypass this system. This link explains.
