Bad Starter...How do I remove it?

It looks as though it is impossible to get out. Is there anyone who can talk me through the process of removing the parts that must be removed in order to remove the starter and replace it? Please help.

I just changed my starter recently, when you look at the starter its in a very tight spot. Loosen the transmission lines running right under the starter. As your laying under your suv you will see 2 lines running right under your starter, just follow the 2 lines toward the engine and you will see a small bracket that holds them together. Losen the screw and wala you now have several inches of play now that u you can move the lines out of the way, this will grant you ease in getting the starter in and out. This was my first time changing my starter and i had the car for 11 years ^_^ I changed it in 2-3hrs remember to disconect your battery also before you begin ^_^

The engine mount heat shield prevents the starter from moving forward enough to clear the bell housing. Remove the nut and heat shield from the engine mount. The starter will move forward/up, the back end will clear the bell housing, and the starter is removed aft/right.

I think hearing that an apprentice has done it is encouraging and worth jacking the vehicle in the air again.

You can try www.autozone.com and see if they have your car listed because they have diagrams and step by step instructions if not you will have to stop by a Mitsubishi dealer in the parts department and they can print you out a diagram

How to remove the starter motor as it looks impossible to ge to the nuts to my old Ford Transit ,are there special tools .I don't want to make any small holes to have to remove it

    disconnect battery negertive terminal
undo and remove the 10mm (spanner size) nut and disconnect the solenoid wire

undo and remove the 13mm (spanner size) nut and disconnect the main starter lead and the alternator wiring

undo and remove the 13mm (spanner size) bolt through the lower mounting point on the starter, this has an earth lead on it, push the lead to one side

undo the top starter bolt (same as lower bolt) and remove the starter from the engine. The top bolt can't be removed from the starter with it in place, and it can't be fitted after you've put the motor back either so don't forget it!

How do I remove a starter on a 1996 Chrysler lhs.

Remove positive battery cable. Look for starter on transmission bell housing. there will be two bolts to the housing, and three wire connections all to loosen and remove. But first make notes, mental or physically make a diagram, to correctly install new starter. It may take twisting starter to get it out from it's location. Reverse process.

Having trouble replacing starter in my 2003 Honda CRV. Cannot remove the Starter Mounting Bolts, can barley access with fingertips. Is there a special tool or trick to removing the old starter?

imjustavg_1.gifNo there is not a trick, just very tight. If you aren't using a socket set with an extention it is almost impossible to get the bolts out though.

I have established that my starter is bad, and I'm in the process of trying to remove it. I have removed the electrical wires, and the two retaining bolts (with extreme difficulty!) but there seems to be a...

It is a 3 bolt starter for sure, And yes the bracket has to be removed, Id advise removing the oil filter as well, But it can be done without it..

98 Durango will not turn over, replaced battery, battery cables, had started checked. Just get a clicking noise at starter like a dead battery. Will start some times.

Sounds like a bad connection. Clean all the connections first then if you have a clicking sound coming from the PDC (fuse box) on the drivers side under the hood then it sounds like you have a bad starter .
As the relay is clicking that means the ignition switch is good. Just insure that the relay is good. There is a spare in the PDC you can swap and check out so its the starter Starter/solenoid combo.take your volt meter and check battery volts while the starter is engaged, if you see very little change from the static voltage it's likely the starter bendix is being egaged into the ring gear but the high current side of the starter is not working, this is likely due to a dirty or worn commutator or worn brushes in the starter motor. If you do see a larger drop in voltage( say down to under 9.5volts) you more than likely have a current flow issue, possibly a weak cell in the battery, or a shorted starter motor winding. My best recomendation would be to remove the starter motor, and the battery, take them in with you to your local parts house and have them both tested, most parts stores will perform these tests for free, on the possibility that hey can sell you something.
STARTER MOTORREMOVAL:-1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.2. Raise and support the vehicle.3. Remove the nut and lock washer securing the starter motor to the mounting stud on the transmission torque converter housing Starter Motor Remove/Install4. While supporting the starter motor with one hand, use the other hand to remove the upper mounting screw from the starter motor.5. Slide the automatic transmission cooler tube bracket forward on the tubes far enough for the starter motor mounting flange to be removed from the lower mounting stud.6. Move the starter motor towards the front of the vehicle far enough for the nose of the starter pinion housing to clear the transmission torque converter housing. Always support the starter motor during this process, do not let the starter motor hang from the wire harness.7. Tilt the nose downwards and lower the starter motor far enough to access and remove the nut that secures the battery positive cable connector eyelet to the solenoid battery terminal stud. Always support the starter motor during this process, do not let the starter motor hang from the wire harness.8. Remove the battery positive cable connector eyelet from the solenoid battery terminal stud. Always support the starter motor during this process, do not let the starter motor hang from the wire harness.9. Disconnect the battery positive cable wire harness connector from the solenoid terminal connector receptacle. Always support the starter motor during this process, do not let the starter motor hang from the wire harness.10.Remove the starter motor from the engine compartment. --This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Starter removal in mirage 2000 1.8L

The starter is located by the firewall under the exhaust manifold. It is very hard to get to. Raise the air filter assembly out of the way and you can get at it from the top. Good luck!!!

Wont start battery good altenator good, how to remove starter

The starter bolt actually goes through the motor mount so in order to remove the starter you must support the engine with and engine support or hoist. (some put a jack underneath the oil pan which is not an approved method but it works if that's all you have) Other than that you seem to have the rest under control.

1995 mercury mystique starter replacement process?

At first, it looks like an impossible task, however if you start by removing the positive battery cable, then unplug mass air flow sensor, carefully remove air filter box and its components from the throttle body. from there you should be able to see the starter better and have more room to work and get it out. You can take the battery right out if you want a little more working space for your elbows. take the wires off the solenoid, sometimes the old studs of solenoid will break due to corrosion. remove the two 13mm bolts that hold the startersome models have one at the bottom also that you will need to access from the bottom side.
