57k on it, seems to shift fine on flat land, but rpms 3-4k up and down hills,
doesnt seem to upshift properly. Tranny holds in a lower gear when in hilly country. was recently drained and refilled at toyota dealer. no other problems. Is this common? Any suggestions from possibly a toyota technician. Is there some sensor or switch they may have altered to do the refill procedure, and forgot to readjust. Thanks for any help.

when it reaches its top speed of about 15 to 20 mph does it rev out or does it stay in that gear?

the trans will not allow overdrive until coolant reaches roughly 180 degrees, if the guage shows cool and the trans is not upshifting, or downshifts to third while driving. the problem is either a sticking (or missing) thermostat. follow the lower radiator hose to the engine and find the three 12mm nuts, remove these to get to it. a new toyota t-stat will have a little bleed valve on its face. position it upwards when installing. hope this is helpful.
P.S. Happy New Year

SOURCE: i'm having a transmission issuewith
first things first. have you identified whether or not it is using a kick down cable? if it is, chances are this is your issue. if the colar breaks or the cable gets freyed and sticks inside the sheath, it will cause definate shift issues. let me know
