Definitely mechanical. The grinding noise when put into park suggests that you have a bad final drive part. Are both front axles still bolted to their yokes? There's a really common issue with axles in VW/Audi cars.

Sounds more like your RPM's are too low. Check the guage against the specifications in the manual.

SOURCE: I own a Audi a4 multitronic 2005. Recently i'v had

I'm having a similar problem with my '05 A4 Multitronic with 75,000 miles on clock. PRNDS lights are all blocked out but not flashing (which I believe is worse). Car is driving ok after I had the EGR valve replaced by dealer at cost of £454. Dealer quoted me a further £1,077 to fit new gearbox ECU. Found a few websites that claim to be able to repair the ECU, best one seems to be www.BBA-Reman.com who quoted £169 +VAT + carriage. You do however need someone to take off and fit repaired ECU, had quotes ranging from £150 - £250 + £60 for 6L of new gearbox oil. However, I have been told by 3 independent garages that specialise in Audi's, BMW's & Merc's etc that they cannot be fixed, so I'm a little sceptical. To summarise the cheapest quote I've had for a new ECU fully fitted is from a garage on Tyneside (where I live) called Swift Motors 0191-2140056 who said they'd be able to do the lot for £860. Only bought car in February, absolutely love it, but sick as f**k at this unexpected cost which I can't afford. Had to take payment holiday from mortgage to cover the costs. Should have stuck with my old Ford Focus!! If anyone can offer any other tips I'd like to hear.

What makes Audi A6 c6 2.4 2007 multitronic gearbox not to change gears or even to move

gee a 20cent blown fuse is cheaper.'
check all fuses
then scan the PCM for tranny errors. using a scan tool.'
there are near 10 on car checks on any failing A/t seems you skipped all that.
USA car or not?
we oops no 2.4l here USA> so you are posted outside USA and didnt say so first.
ours has 7 solenoids in the box. tranny, and if the TCM is not happy how and can it shift right.? and EPC inside to set pressures right.
ours uses A6 Quattro; Trans. Code 6HP19A;
I say check all fuses., then scan the pcm/tcm
then ask for help with P07nn or P17nn errors called DTC's

the box is 100% electronic shifted, how can you forget to check status of the TCM./

I have changed Audi a6 2.4 v6 2008 multitronic gearbox which oil can I put to the new box?

the service manual or glove box manual covers that.
do not guess, ever. or BOOM a wrecked box.
no country told at all
take my jeep <USA, has MB NAG1 AT box.
it uses ATP +4 but in 2 color codes one for USA and other for Europe
this is because they run different programming here for Amercian's that hate crisp shifting, but guess what they can not be mixed.
the 2 colored ATF codes fluid. and used wrong TCM goes mad.

see how tricky this is. end also voids the warranty doing it wrong.
and how risky this is asking the open world forum what to use?
then getting wrong answer from wrong country.????
I guess your book in the glove box is now LOST>?
why not ask your local dealer this or get the book from them for your exact car. and not guess, or be told wrong, texting the blind.
OURS:
in the USA the Audi dealer here, to get the free 2008 guide
you must tell them the VIN so they don't lie to you, same with all car parts too.
rule 2 do not overfill the box or get doom.
only done hot, in park at idle, not like any engine
if too full it foams up and bearings starve,
USA answer, A6 non quattro.
our engine is 3.2L /trans is below.
Audi's Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is called multitronic.
real name CVT and for sure uses special fluid.
VL300 TO VL381 3 BOXES, USA.
OUR SERVICE MANUAL STATES
we also know this Fluid gets dirty fast and needs service often. on CVT.

ATF for Multitronic 01J ,BONE DRY FILL IS 7.5LITER HERE.
NOTES
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
The continuously variable automatic transmission multitronic 01J requires a different ATF than shift automatics. Use only ATF available as a replacement part for the multitronic 01J in the continuously variable transmission.
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
  1. The multitronic 01J and 0AN transmission require different axle oil depending on the condition. Only axle oil for Multitronic which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive. Only use gear oil that is assigned to the transmission code, refer to the Parts Catalog.
  2. Mixing gear oil and other oils even in small amounts can damage the transmission components.

I went google and came up with the following recommended oil
castrol transmax A cvt
the reading is --full synthetic continuous variable transmission fluid developed for Audi. It is the only CVTF approved for use in the vl 300 and vl 3800 multitronic (CVT chain) transmission applications in the Audi A4 ( up to 2007 models ). Audi A6 and Audi A8
features &benefits
exceptional steel on steel friction durability maintains transmission performance
good gear wear protection prolongs the performance and life of transmission
high shear stability and enhanced anti-foaming and air release characteristics maintain effective lubrication
Specifications and technical data
VW TL 52180
only approved product for Audi cars with multitronic transmissions
corresponds to part no G 052 180
this is an extract from the www.castrol.com web page
go google and type in--- type of transmission oil used in audi cvt transmissions---
there is a penrite site that has a special oil for Audi CVT transmissions and no doubt there will be other sites for Mobil , shell and others
hope this helps

I have an audi a6 2.5tdi v6 multitronic automatic 2002 when I put it into Drive the car moves but judders, vibrates loudly and doesnt change gear

Ouch, I suggest you check the fluid level of the transmission. If the fluid is OK, you need to ask around about a good gearbox repairer.

Engine misfire/engine shake/selects wrong gear-A4 multitronic 08

Hi Frank I am a technician with audi myself It may be that you require an engine e.c.u and not a gearbox one however has your A4 had any recalls carried out on the gearbox since purchase if not that would definately be something worth checking hope this helps.

2000 Audi A6 tiptronic 2.5tdi. Gearbox warning light on, no 5th

You need to give the car a scan, preferably with VCDS (or VAS at a dealer). If limp mode is activating (lit up gear selections), then it will be storing codes.
The fact that it works to a degree could be good news, the gear box has likely not failed. Could be the F125 selector switch, which is a common fail at this age.
