Do NOT use pipe thread tape on fuel lines!! the tape can break off as you tighten the lines and will either (if your lucky, end up in the filter and plug it up) or travel up the line and in plug up the fuel injectors (if you're not so lucky). The fuel lines have a small O-ring on the end to prevent leaks, instead of using pipe thread tape, go to the dealer or auto parts store and buy new O-rings to put on the lines.
Fuel filter is under the back next to the gas tank hanging on a hanger..follow gas lines from tank if you cant find it..its a stainless steel small cylinder...have a bucket ready to catch the gas that WILL pour out..use pipe thread tape around the threads before you put the new one back on or else it will leak
The fuel filter is under the car just over the rear axle. You with be able to undo the one end of the filter with a couple wrenched but the other end has a special connector so if you do not have the tool to compress the connector to get the old filter out do not attempt.
this is a easy job for those who do these such as the lube shops etc. Please leave this up to them to replace. For all it costs to have done it isn't worth the aggrevation or what you may break trying to do it yourself.

It is either along the frame rail, probably drivers side under car follow the metal fuel line or it is in the gas tank right at the fuel pump, either requires removing tank or carpet inside trunk to get to access panel, but your problem is probably not fuel filter, with todays clean fuels fuel filters are a problem of the past, used to be a easy fix but that is why they hide them now because they are usually good for life of vehicle, 1999 is not old enough to make difference in this situtation.

The fuel filter on the 99's are mounted right above the rear axle on the passengers side. Fuel tank on these are located in the trunk behind the back seat by the way...

the fuel filter is located on the iner driver or pasenger side frame railing inbetween the front and rear doors. yes it has filter in the tank which is more comely know as the sock or straner. the filter will look like a metal canister .

where is the secondary fuel filter located on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier Z24? I know there is one in the fuel tank by the fuel pump.
