Under the hood you will find a white sticker, about 2-3 inches wide. On it will have the engine size/group and the spark plug gap and other service information. Good luck

Spark gap is the gap between the electrode and the arm that is needed to a specific size per vehicle and engine size. If this gap isn't correct, you may have problems with missing in the engine. To find out what the gap size is for your vehicle, you can go to your local auto parts store like Autozone and either buy the repair manual for your vehicle or call them and ask them what it should be; they can always look up that information in their systems.
Verify that the plugs are gapped properly & be sure to clean the area they install in & by all means use di-electric grease on the top of the plug & bottom of the coils. Unfortunately, coils can accept the spark back into themselves causing arcing & such just as easily as they can send a spark through the insulator of the spark plug , if that path is easier. Di-electric grease has been recommended for High energy ignitions since the mid '80s as it does aid in keeping the spark channeled through the plug. Also, check your ground strap from the firewall to the engine & be sure it is a good connection on both ends. Good luck.
Actually I just redid the plugs and wires for an 01 I just got as a DD. The NGK Iridiums I put in said to gap them at .044 in, the label under the hood says between .039 and .043 and I'm guessing that's for the OEM plugs.
Change your piston rings. Check your compression. I'll bet that cylinder is more than 15% lower that spec.(all the others in the motor if its a older one.)If you just did that you will see some untell the rings seat. (if you made sure all the new ring gaps are not lined-up in the same place). If the oil was on the top of the plugs you fix whatever is leaking on them. If it was on the electrode, the above is true.
I need your engine specs.
is it a 4 or 6 cylinder?
what liter is this engine?
