I am having a problem just like that now on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It started when i was leaving work and as I started to back out of my parking spot i got half way out and my jeep just died. All my lights still worked; radio everything. I got a couple friends to help push it back in the spot. I could not get it to start again so, I just popped the hood and started to look at my battery cables to see if they are corroded and they were just dirty but not totally bad. I noticed that my negative battery cable was lose so i tighten it up the best i could and went to started it up and it started with no problems. I started to drive it home and got about 3 miles away from home and it died again, and again the lights were still on,radio on also i did not see any warning lights on the dash (service lights, check engine lights...) so i popped the hood again loosed my cables cleaned them more and put them back on and drove it home know problems. That weekend i went out and bought some battery terminal cleaner and scrubbed the cables till they looked new. Well I went to check it out and started it up. and it started up again no problems no warning lights i drove about 50 yards away from the house and it died again. I dont know what to do, I dont know much at all about fixing anything on a car. Also right after it dies i tried strarting up and the engine will turn over but it will not fire. I have had my battery checked and its good. I check to see if my alternator was working so i check voltage at my battery to see if i was getting 14 volts and i was, also I notice after it dies my battery voltage indicator drops to about 10 volts or so. I know this is a long message but any help would be much appreciated. I am also good reading- wiring schematics so if i could get some i would appreciate it or service manuals anything. On some cam sensors they must be re-calibrated with a scan tool. that sensor also controls injector timing through the ecm. If after you get that squared away, the vehicle returns to normal but still includes the shutting off thing, check the crank sensor after the engine dies and see if it checks out (no resistance between b&c terminals of the sensor) On some cam sensors they must be re-calibrated with a scan tool. that sensor also controls injector timing through the ecm. Re: jeep will just die going down doad or will not start,...
That sounds like a bad grounding wire, or possible PCM malfunction. Check all engine wiring harness locations for any corrosion or damage. let me know what engine type you have, and I could look up the wiring schematics

ok this can be applied to just about any vehical ever made ...but my experience is with ( for this case) my 1991 jeep cherokee..i had all kinds of proplems and codes...they consisted of hard starting, reving up and down, cutting out,(engine dying), worse and worse gas milage..stumbling..o2 sensor codes( fault o2 sensor)..bad isc motor..bad map sensor...bad temp/thermostat and my brakes kept getting worse..(softer and softer...so i started posting my proplem all over the net and even broke down and took it to a jeep service center...i spent well over seven hundred dollars and still most all of the proplems remained...so i referd back to an old and very simple way to search for proplems with any motor...(cheapest way first)...lol well i guess not first..at least not for me haha..i started unpluging the different sensors while the engine was running to see if there was any change and every one seemed to change things a little ...so i then took a can of carb cleaner and started spraying ever gasget surface and vacume hose...!!!!..i found that the engine changed pitch every time i sprayed the intake gasget...!!!..so i bought a new one for ten dollars ...spent 4 hours to replace it .. and it fixed every one of the proplems i had...it sounds crazy but if you put a little thought behind it ..it makes perfect sense...o2 was reading faulty and lean(more oxygendue to leak)..brakes were getting softer(due to drop in manifold vacume) map sensor was reading faulty and causeing stumble and cut out (also due to drop in manifold pressure) temp/thermosate reading due to idle air temp (which needs to coencide with temp sensor) not recieving proper air flow reading also due to leak...well as much as i can go on about this i am just posting this where i can i hopes that my adventure saves someone a little money....remember i spent over 7 hundred before figuring out this simple ten dollar fix!!!! and since the intake and exhust share a common gasget it is pron to leaks....good luck and i hope this helps
If it did not start and die when you used starting fluid then check to see if the plugs are getting spark. Check to see if injectors are pulsing. Could be bad crank sensor. Need scanner to check further
First I suggest scanned the fault codes stored there; turn the ignition key (without start engine) "on/off on/off on" and read odometer codes Pxxxx. Note this codes and send us for other details.
Computers aren't ALWAYS correct. If a code wasn't cleared after the original problem, it will read the same codes off to the diagnostic. I would remove the wire connector to each injector while it's running. If one of them makes no difference THAT is your culprit. Let me know please!
Try checking Throttle position sensor with an ohm meter. Remove connection, put probes on pins (hit & miss on which ones, but you'll find 2 that give you a reading that increases as throttle is opened) and read meter as you open throttle all the way open & all the way back slowly & smoothly. The reading should go smooth up & down, If it jumps, or doesn't move at all in some spots, it's probably faulty. Have you tried to get any fault codes yet?
I had a problem with my Jeep doing the same thing. It turned out to be the Crank shaft senor. It would just turn off even on the highway at 60mph.
If you can change it yourself you will save a lot of money.
