My 2004 2500HD Duramax won't start. Acts like the bateries were low but won't take a jump, even from another diesel. Now when the key is turned on the gauges and warning bells go crazy. Sometimes even if the key isn't on or you just open the door. Batteries checked good. Removed starter, and checked with jumper cables and it seems good but truck won't turn over. Just acts dead.
Took the starter and batteries to be checked. Both batteries and the starter checked good. All posts were clean and all ground straps to the frame were well connected. Put it all back together and the same thing keeps happening. I'm wondering if I have a computer problem now. Took the starter and batteries to be checked. Both batteries and the starter checked good. Found the problem! There was a bad connection inside the drivers side battery for the negative side post. We put and adapter terminal on the top negative post that allows the side mount cable on the truck to attach to it and it cranked right up. It was a bad ground after all but inside the battery. It reset my Hour meter for the engine but the odometer still reads correctly. Thanks for the help. Found the problem! the car turns over good the battery, fuel pump and starter are good. It acts like it is not getting fuel. What else would cause it not to start even thought all these are good.the car turns over good the battery, fuel pump and starter are good. It acts like it is not getting fuel. fill it up with oil and and try to jump start it with some jumper cables you may also try to turn the engine over by hand by using a scoket on the crank pulley if it turns over real hard or will not turn over the engine may need to be replaced do to no oil

This is not unusual on a diesel. What happens is there is air in the system. If this vehicle has an electric fuel pump loosen line where fuel enters injection pump then turn ignition key to the on position and watch for fuel to appear and then quickly tighten line before turning off key. Then try to start. If does not have electric fuel pump will need a second person. One will loosen line and watch while other cranks vehicle until you get fuel and tighten line before the other person releases ignition switch unless vehicle starts first. If that doesn't do the job do this where line hooks onto each injector. Probably will not have to do this to all injectors but could run rough until all the air gets out of everything. I have farmed with diesel tractor for 25 years and dad I drove the gm vehicles with the 5.7. You normally don't start a diesel without bleeding the air out of the lines although some will self bleed most won't. Hope this does the trick.
The Duramax fuel filter assembly is bad about sucking air. Replace the fuel filter assembly. It comes with a new fuel filter. I need some good feedback.
The trunk latch is operated by a solenoid which it requires power to operate. since the batery is flat then it won't work. I'm not sure where the positive terminal is under the hood but you can connect the positive lead to the alternator wire terminal, and the negative lead can be connected any where on the engine.
Good luck......
I am currently having the exact same problem with my '05 duramax. today for the first time it even died while driving and then would not restart for 5 minutes. If you figure this out please let me know. My email is [email protected]
Im taking mine back in to have it looked at tomorrow.
who did a conversion on this truck???? the duramax is a common rail engine and can not handle wvo or sve. it will destroy your entire fuel system in no time on this truck. if you want to do a vo conversion you need to get a diesel with an inline injection pump or one of the older powerstrokes. i would suggest you quit trying to run wvo through this truck if you do not want to do a lot of very expensive damage
