well not having put one on myself, here goes.all your pulleys that are smooth on the outside means the back of the belt is goin to be touching it, whereas the grooved side of the belt is gonna face the grooved side of the pulley.the adjuster just tightens the belt.good luck
Have you tried to start it yet? That may be all you need to do to get the tensioner to re-activate and get the proper tightness.Be quick though.Only a brief start, then check it to see if it is any better.
hi this sounds like the actual bearings have gone in the pulley, hence the belt coming off, you will have to replace that pulley or what ever it is that the pulley is attached to ie power steering pump, water pump, etc, to put the belt back on after the repair has been done, you will need to loosen off one of the tensionerpulleys to put it back on...hope this helps
some porsches adjust belt tension by adding or removing shims between the two pulley halfs.take the nut off the pulley insert the belt put thebelt, outer pulley and nut back on.
Cant use same belt, Has to be smaller, go to AZ, or local part store and give them y m m tell them without ac. Can be tricky finding right side but you could keep exchanging until u get right one. G.Luck.
Look for a hole you can fit the square end of a ratchet in. Should be a 3\8 or 1\2 inch drive. Or it's a pulley with a spring in it. It will look like it's on a lever type thingy. Just put a wrench on the bolt in the middle of the pulley turn to the left, bolt turns, wrong one, pulley moves, right one. Don't forget to take a pic of the belt so you know how to put it back on.
from front of engine looking back, belt around bottom of crank pully, water pump is just above, left side of belt comes around water pump going counter clock wise, put belt over alternator, then straight across to a/c compressor,(make sure belt goes under any idler pullies, smooth side of belt to smooth side of pully)find your belt tensioner, pry back on tensioner(be carefull)and carefully place belt under roller pully of the tensioner, release and check allignment of belt prior to starting.oh ya make sure belt is in good condition.
If the belt is angled funny, you do not have it routed correctly.
There should be a belt routing diagram under the hood somewhere. Check that the pulley position of the new alternator is the same as the old alternator.
Why not identify your vehicle; Which model? What year? Which engine? Does it have A/C? Answering these questions will allow myself and others to give you a much better answer.
