I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon 5-speed manual. The issue I have is, today the ABS light came on. I restarted the car and it did not come back on, I thought nothing of it. Then tonight after it got dark I noticed I had no taillights or plate lights, headlights worked fine. I got home and found it was a fuse, I replaced the original 10 amp fuse with the only one I had a 20 amp fuse. Fixed the issue but, I noticed the third brake light lighting up very dim. Also, the ABS light came back on. I also noticed that the cruise control is not working. All these issues are with the lights on. I turn the lights off and these issues are no more. I'm lost! Please help!

55 EGR Temperature Sensor or Circuit

ABS light is nothing to do with code 55 separate fault circuits.

Under dash there are two wires with mini spades at the end, connect one of them to the single black multiplug in position 2. Thats RHS plug inlet when you hold plug with tab lock on top.
ABS sensor should then flash up error coded. Ignore code 11 thats a initial flash to let you nknow the difference between a fast and slow flash.

Let me know what code flashes up and I will tell you the symptom,

Dan

Does the emergency flasher work? If not, it could be a connection behind the coffee holder/Emergency flasher switch on the dashboard. I had a mechanic who had to go behind the dashboard and inadvertantly din't connect it properly and neither my flasher nor blinkers worked.

First suggestion is to take out the 20 amp fuse before you have a massive wiring problem from a burnt harness. IT has a 10 amp fuse to protect the wiring and anything over will set the car alight if there is a dead short.. Next run the fault codes to find out why the ABS light came on. Have a check done on the alternator and check the alternator drive belt and tension. I suspect that the alternator has insufficient out put to handle all the electrics and that means either the alternator or a failing battery.

What does error code 55 mean for Subaru leagcy 2005

This is a communication error with the BIU (body integrated unit). Need to take to the dealer, possible that the ECU needs to be replaced to fix this issue. It should be covered under the federal emmission wrty.
