1998 Chevy Tahoe reverse lights stay on with engine off

Today, while driving, my reverse lights came on at some point and woundn't shut off, even when the engine was turned off. They're on all the time now, weather I'm driving forward or not, engine on or off. I can't disconnect the battery to turn them off because it just sets off the alarm system.

Problem solved.... it wasn't the keyless entry. It turned out to be a cracked plug end for the trailer hitch. The hitch gets it's power directly from the battery so when the crack let water into the plug, it caused a short. The short was looking for a way to ground and that caused the back up lights to stay on. It took a frustrating few hours to find but was a simple fix in the end.

1999 Chevy Tahoe. I have DTC Code P1416 code for bank 2.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

Did you clear the code with a Scan Tool after replacing the valves?

The 1998-2001 Chevrolet Tahoe has a known issue with the air pump check valve which causes illumination of the check engine light. There are no notable symptoms, but the vehicle will not pass state inspection or smog testing. When the valve fails, it sticks closed, and the computer sets the code P1416.Dec 10, 2016

Chevy tahoe

This is odd, I suspect that the connection at either the shifter or at the actual transmission is stuck on, allowing 12V to always be sent to the reverse lights. I don't know the specific model, but the connection is either in the shifter assembly (PRND321) or on the transmission where the cable meets the casing. Grease and particles could be built up causing the circuit to be closed all the time.

Check engine light is on, motor runs rough, sometimes stalls

Go to Advance or Auto Zone and have them run an obd scan on it and it will pin point why your light is on and could solve your problem. This is often done for free.

Service engine light stays on

disconnect battery and reconnect. If you have a problem that the computer is sensing, the light will reappear. At that point you must fix the problem. If your car seems to be running ok it could be something minor. Check all sensor connections under the hood
