Seen this "mystery drain" many times. Check spark at the battery to see how big the drain is. For this simple test, blow away any (explosive) battery charging fumes. Leave one terminal on and gently touch the other to its post in fairly dark surroundings. Then try it again with the wires taken off the alternator. Your spark is now probably much less. Usually bad diodes leaking electricity backwards through the alternator cause this drain. Replace the alternator or the diode pack inside it. Some mechanics recommend actually measuring the drain.... hahaha. OK whatever.

1994 Dodge B250 runs battery down overnight put meter between post and battery pulled all fuses no change black wire fuseable link disconnected kills voltage but van wont start then new battery

It would seem as though you have a drain somewhere in the electrical system.

A faulty alternator can cause a battery to drain - sometimes - within minutes. It's the rectifier pack - the diodes in the back of the alternator which burn out.

Charge your battery and when parked up, disconnect the connector at the rear of the alternator. If the vehicle cranks ok the next morning you have to suspect the alternator.

If the problem persists you then obviously have a current drain somewhere else. As you have removed the fuses and it made no difference .. this suggest that the drain could be in the instrument cluster/dashboard.

The best option is to visit an auto electrician. He'll be able to identify the cause of the drain within minutes

Battery drain overnight

Usually if battery is good. Its usually a parasitic drain. You can use a standard multimeter, and put across each fuse top. Two little tips. If you see a voltage even a little bit. That's a drain. Find what fuse go's too. And diagnose.

Battery keeps going dead overnight. I've already changed the alternator which tested to be bad and still having the same problem

if you installed a new battery as well as a new alternator, it should not go dead overnight. if you have a short in the vehicle that will drain a new battery that rapidly, the cable would have been melted already. although, dome lights do have a tendency to drain batteries, but not overnight. use a multimeter to check the battery voltage while the motor is running. it should read above 13 volts DC signifying that the alternator is indeed charging the battery.

My battery keeps draining down at night it's a 99 dodge durango

you have something draining the battery, check for any lights that might be staying on,interior light, stop light under the hood light(if any),glove box light trunk light, if you have a multimeter with amp testing capability or an amp meter you can check where the drain is by removing each fuse & put the probes on each side the terminals until you find a drainage, that way you might be able to find out what is draining the power & rectify it......hope this helps......cheers

Battery drains overnight

First thing you need to do is make sure battery is fully charged & have it load tested. If that and the rest of your charging system checks out, then you'll have to test for a battery draw, when vehicles off.
