1999 Volvo S70 Warning Lights

My 1999 Volvo S70 has 135,000 miles. The warning lights come on in various configurations and then the speedometer doesn't work and the mileage display disappears. After a few minutes, a few of the warning lights go off and the speedometer and mileage indicator resume. The cruise control has suddenly stopped working as well and it is now tempermental about starting. I had a problem with the cruise control awhile back and it turned out to be the Electronic Throttle. I had it replaced, later found out this was covered as part of a lawsuit settlement with Volvo. Is it possible the ET is going bad again? Any suggestions? Is it time to dump it?

I have the identical problem with mine. I replaced trans speed sensor, a mech told me it could be a vac leak essentially giving strange readings to the ecu, then going into default, found a couple vac leaks didn't make a change.

SOURCE: Volvo abs lights stays on

Usually the ABS computer knows what it is doing. You may want someone to hookup a scanner to the ABS test port.
When I had my speedometer and odometer act up, it turned out to be a bad alternator. You might want to check yours.

Sounds like a bad ABS control module is at least part of your problem. The symptoms are usually and ABS and TRACS light intermittent or constand and eventually your speedometer works intermittently or totally quits. This guy rebuilds/upgrades them for about $140. New ones run over $800.

it appears there is a computer program upgrade for a few cruise control problems on your car. can only be done at a volvo dealership though. call them and see if any would applie to your cars vin# they dont give out any info online exept for that there are problems with the cruise control and the "fly by wire" throttle control. they may be more exspensive at the dealer but they have the proper tools and information needed to fix the car. in the long run it will be alot cheaper than throwing parts at a side note that car is what is called a networked car.meaning even seemingly simple parts like a seat or window switch are actually computers. that is why i asked about any new electric parts., if a used part were to be installed it would be very likely the programing in it would disagree with your car causing a software coruption problem ranging from wierd minor stuff to failure to run at all. a new part would be unprogrammed and cause the same problems.

How do I fix all warning lights on, on a 1999 Volvo s70 at the same time.

try disconnecting the battery ,leave for ten minutes for the electronic gizmos to power down ,i should say make sure you have the radio code , reconnect battery and try ignition if no change will need to be scanned on the Volvo diagnostic setup as i would'nt expect a generic OBD reader to be able to resolve this issue

1999 S70 Turbo - radio went out then five warning lights came on. Radio went off and I continued to drive without issues other than warning lights. 60 mi later radio went off and speedometer dropped from...

On a web search I found several people that had similar weird dash lights/operation issues. Someone thought it might be a faulty ignition switch but that was not it. The success came as follows:
"Alright fixed the problem it was an electrical relay. If you remove the cover of the fuse box under the hood there are 4 large relays. two of them are unmarked as to what they are for but I disconnected them while the car and everything was running and it turned out that one was for the lights and the other was for the interior electrical components A/C, Radio, wipers, etc. I replaced the one that I needed and all is well now. Thanks for the help $20 for a problem that had me ready to sell the car."
Your issue may be similar .. a faulty relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood...which I think is just forward of the driver side wheel well. Usually there is a legion/map on the underside of the lid that tells you what each relay and fuse is.
Good luck on your troubleshooting

Can't find a test for the vehicle speed sensor.

The bad news is the only part that is connected to all of these is the ECM or computer.

ETS light comes on and off

There are two problems here. First you need and abs control unit. They are very expensive and it is possible to rebuild them. A couple of places to call: ATE, Auto Truck Electronics, they are in Florida, and BBA Remanufacturing near Boston, MA. I have used both companies and they charge much less to rebuild them than it costs to purchase a new one. That should take care of the speedometer, brake light, and ABS light. As for the check engine, that could be anything and the car will need to be scanned. ETS light can be remedied by a trip to the dealer. There is a campaign to install new software to the Electronic Throttle Controller. This is no charge to the customer and I believe the car has to be under 200,000 miles.
