Is the security light flashing? If it is, put the key in and turn all the way but don't start. Leave on for 10 min. Or until the security light stops flashing. Turn off and then try to start.
Why do think the key security is bad? If you still have a factory key, this is not the problem...if no factory key, you can take your VIN number or original key to GM dealer to get new key that they will program for you...Check for dirty battery connections:)
My 2002 Malibu has not much power getting up hills and seem to be getting worse, there is about 156,000 kms on it, starts fine, my husband noticed on occasions that when going up hill no power and it revs high when attemping even slight inclines
There is a detailed write-up here: http://vatspasskey.com . The guy is great, this was the only way I was able to save my Park Avenue and he told me lots of Camaro's were on his list.
This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.
