34 51 I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina and about a month

34 51 I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina and about a month ago the codes 34 and 51 came on. This week as I was driving, the power steering and acceleration went out at the same time. The check oil light went on right before it failed, and the radio starting pulsing (electrical problem?). I could still hear the motor running in some capacity. I turned it off and on and was able to drive it the mile or so home, although it stalled out once more. It does still start. I'm going to take it to a mechanic, but I would like to have some idea of what's wrong with it before I bring it in. Any help would be appreciated.

51 IIRC, is EGR fail, fix that first.
if the EGR fails the car will in fact stall at every stop sign.
yes, the motor runs at 300 RPM and illegal RPM 800 is correct.
this is the EGR stuck open
all cars with EGR have a 50k mile service, my bet is you dont follow the service charts.?

we clean the valve.
in a shop they wont the replace it for like $200 part and $100-200 labor.
DIY guys , remove it and clean it and test it with a hand vacuum pump, if electric use that on car, in special way (ask);

Testimonial: "51 is PROM error, not EGR"

SOURCE: Car wouldn't start couple of

theres a tsb for a faulty fuel pump........ Access the fuel pump connector.
Monitor voltage between the White/Red (WH/RD) and Black/Yellow (BK/YE) wires, leaving the fuel pump connected. Also monitor the fuel pressure.
Voltage will normally be about 6-8v at idle and will increase with load on the engine.
Drive the car to try and duplicate the complaint. When the problem is occurring, check the fuel pressure vs. voltage to the fuel pump. If pressure is dropping but voltage is the same or increasing, check the connections right at the fuel pump. If OK, drop the fuel tank, inspect the lines internally and replace the fuel pump as needed.

check airflo sensor or potentometer, throttle pos sensor; if revs are to low when turning the wheel the power steering pump will draw power from engine, causing your other problems

1997 chevy lumina stalls when turning

My first thought would be the power steering pump is out of fluid, or that your pump is faulty and seizing. A rack and pinion going bad can also cause this.

Dash lights and rear running lights will not work on 1998 chevy Lumina

Most likely a fuse. There should be a fuse panel either near the drivers or passenger side kick panel on the floor and/or in the front engine bay. Check all the fuses and replace the one that is blown.Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. It was an easy fix but too some time to look at each fuse.

1999 Chevy Lumina won't turn over...new battery

If your lumina has a Pass II key, it may well be the ignition lock cylinder on the steering column. The car key has a resistor staked on the sides of it which is read by the theft deterent module. The theft deterent module issues a command to the ignition relay and the fuel injectors when it reads a correct resistance from the key. If the lock cylinder is damage( broken wire) ect. the theft deterent module will not be able to read the key. Unfortunately, if you have a Lumina with a solid shroud around the steering column, the dealer will charge you $700-$1200 to replace the cylinder.
Good luck

Chevy lumina 1995 van

I have a 96 Chevy Lumina with an electric sliding side door. A few weeks ago we started having problems with it. I went to work and when I got ready to leave it would not start. I had to have it jumped. Got home and let it set over the Thanksgiving weekend. Went to start it the Mon/Tues after and nothing. Let it set another week and still nothing. We jumped it again and it took 15 minutes to get enough of a charge in the battery to get it started. Took it to a battery store and they checked the battery and said that was the problem. We replaced the battery (it wasn't that old) and went home. A few days later it wouldn't start again. Could this problem have anything to do with the electric slinding door? if so, any suggetions on how to fix it?
