Multiple failures will contribute to this symptom. Both mechanical and electrical issues need to be looked at. Check for "Engine light" and any active or stored engine codes. Running a cylinder compression test, fuel line pressure test, exhaust pressure test, check the timing, check for misfire, check for clogged fuel and air filter, defective MAF or MAP sensor, check for vacuum leaks. get the OBD2 codes read to determine what (and how many) errors are being reported by the check engine light. Most auto parts stores will do this for free, and decipher the codes, sell you the part too!

Sometimes the antitheft security system can turn off the injectors and/or fuel pump when there is a problem in the system. A good indicator is if there is a light somewhere on the dash that reads SECURITY. You might have a vacuum leak somewhere. What does the code say? MAF sensor? Probably is, just want to make sure.

does it start and run at idle in park.
it is probably either a vacuum leak or an idle air control valve,
if it misses and runs rough before it dies maybe a vacuum leak.
if it just idles too low, the iac valve

P0420 code represents several issues with the catalyst system. Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes, catalytic converter needs to be replaced, high engine oil or coolant usage (normally meaning a deeper issue), the front and rear HO2S are leaking, contaminated or age. these codes are for both size motors, the four and the six. then remove the negative battery pole, press the brake down for 90 seconds reconnect the battery pole..

sounds like it may be coming from your heater core or one of the hoses that run to it to be leaking in that area
