My vans a 2006 Chrysler town and country it shows check engine light, I stopped at auto zone code said bad egr or catalytic converter, when I travel it will shift gears no problem until I need it to power uphills and it stars to bog down and wont shift to overdrive, I changed the egr valve and now it doesn't want to shift in any gear when you give it the gas hard, but when I have slow acceleration it will shift ok until out of 3rd

Laura, A few places like autozone will scan why the light is on for no charge. Engine light can come on for something as simple as a loose gas cap to something worse as a faulty catalytic converter. Take vehicle into a good shop, have scanned for trouble codes, diagnosed and an estimate for repair. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

egr valve is stuck open at idel exhaust gas is entering engin causing lean condition and missfire your po300 301 codes replace egr and clear codes

I had the same problem and your right no egr on 2005 town and country I have the same vehicle and the place for the egr is covered by a metal plate I also had the same exact problem with my van misfire bad idle at stop lights and after replacing every sensor there is and testing every part and injector with Ohm meter I read an article about the intake manifold plenum gasket leak can cause misfire so I bought new intake manifold plenum gasket set for only $7.99 and installed them and like magic the van ran perfect no more misfire no sluggish start from light Van is fixed finally!!!

This can be cause by many things... (Mainly by a faulty EGR valve) or bad exhaust. If you haven't found a fix yet... Are you able to stop by an Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts? If so, ask them to place a code reader onto your OBD reader. Let us know if there is a code, or if you need more help.

TAKE IT TO ADVANCE AUTO OR AUTO ZONE TO SCAN IT .TO TELL YOU YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE.

Replace the EGR valve, the code is for EGR system performance

If your torque converter is starting to come apart it could cause severe damage to the rest of the transmission. If it is affordable I would try a second opinion though.
