SOURCE: 2003 toyota sequoia rear door latch broken

First, take off the license plate2_bing.gif.
Since the hatch wouldn't open, I started from the inside and took down the top trim piece. After that the two side pieces come down, then the main trim piece which covers the bulk of the door comes out. These are all popped in with the white tabs.
There are 3 access hole covers to pop out (don't forget to install them back in when done) and through the left hole you can see the mechanism to unlatch, press it down with a screwdriver and open the door. If anytime you close the door you will have to do this to unlatch, up until you disconnect the cable and pull out the handle, then you have to locate the cable and pull that directly.
Behind the large trim piece you will find a metal access cover, remove the 7 or 8 10mm bolts holding that on and pop the 3 white tabs and let it hang off to the side. Disconnect the cable from the handle assembly by reaching in from the right hand side and popping of the cable from the handle assembly.
From the left and right access holes, locate the two 10mm nuts which hold the license plate assembly to the door and remove them. Then there are 4 plastic tabs that come in from the outside that hold the license plate assembly on in each corner, try and locate those and using some pliers squeeze them together and push it through. Next locate the license plate lamps wire connector and release that from the left side, it’s the simple push in and pull out square white connector.
After these are out, put back in 1 or 2 bolts into the large metal access cover so the hatch can be lowered (don’t close it).
Here is where I had fun, begin to pop out the assembly that it was bolted to. I ended up breaking 3 of the 4 plastic tabs in each corner because I did not use pliers from the other side to pull them out, however it remained somewhat useable (hindsight 20/20).
Now the license plate assembly can be taken to a bench to replace the handle assembly (Toyota doesn't sell just the handle, it is a small assembly). Two screws out and the assembly is replaced.
Before pressing the license plate assembly back onto the truck, make certain all the plastic tabs are in the assembly and not in the truck. Reverse the process to re-install.

How to manuley unlock the rear hatch lift door from the inside on a 2003 GMC ENVOY ? I open the inside cap but can't see how to get it unlocked.

the door is most likely stuck, something caught in it or pushing against it. Make sure there is nothing pushing against the door and then push it really hard to make sure it re latches. I had to do this about 3 times before my door released. I had part of a blanket in the latch. Then try opening door. If that doesn't work ask at any dealer ship for help.

GMC Envoy 2004 XUV tailgate won't latch closed. Pressure switch makes latch click but when I go to close it, it does not latch.

Two things happen. One the latch is already latched and therefore it's closed before the gate shut, When you try to close it you might notice that the door don't close all the way. This doe'snt have to be thwe case. the other thing that happens if the lock mechanism is working, You here it click? The latch is stuck as the opener is stuck. You might get lucky and spray the latch with Blaster or other rust buster type penatrant. Theres angles though the opening of the latch . Spray on several angles and repleatly close the door trying to vibrate the Penatrant into the stuck area. Looking at the latch use a screw driver to move the latch and see if you can cycle it though it's positions to see if you can latch and unlatch it with the tool and reopen by pullung the handle ( you may need to try ther inside handle too and even the remote openner if you have one. Ussaaaly you need to push the button twice to open the rear hatch so it may take a few trys and spraying to get it to come loose.. Some vehicals stay closed a long time and stuck is the way to think.. But if the door is used often the linkage inside the door mayh have come off the the latch is closed and the linkage doesn't open the laTCH AND THE THING MANAGED TO GET CLOSED WITHT THE DOOR OPEN.

Can't get door open

wiring connections or lock latch frozen --to manually bypass latch or to unlock rear hatch -- in the bottom of door panel is a round access hole remove cover just clipped into place using a flashlight and a screw driver about 3 inches in on bottom is the lock latch and window lock latch connections if u pull back on the inner latch u will unlock the hatch which will allow u to open it[ when opened check the wiring connections for corrosion or damage if good ] now u can remove the whole hatch panel and check the latches and actuator the actuator and latches, and rod clips sometimes need to be lubed or sometimes the clips break or disconnect clips can be purchased at any auto store panel is clipped into place carefully pry from a corner and using a screw driver or panel tool pry straight back till panel clip pops replacement of panel put clips in place and push in panel
