To replace pinon bearing you need to pull wheels and the brake drums off next pull cover off the back of the rear end (make sure you have a drain pan under rear end) next turn dive shaft till you see a small bolt remove bolt pull center pin out push axle in pull c clips out pull axels out remove four bolts holding ring and spider gears remove gears assembly next remove drive shaft remove bolt from pinon push pinon in remove seal and bearing
The shaft has a clip on the end to hold it in the transmission but it stays with the shaft and does not need to be removed seperately, Easiest way to get the shaft out is to use 2 prybars, on on each side and pop the shaft out. When installing the new shaft, make sure it is in all the way and that the clip is holding it in.
remove wheel remove large nut in center of hub unbolt lower control arm allowing the assembly to "swing" out a bit. with a prybar, you will have to snap the shaft out on the transmission side to disengage the clip holding the shaft in.
The factory u-joints use plastic injection for retainers so when it comes time to replace the factory u-joint use a torch to heat the u-joint cups and you will see a melted plastic worm come out the side of the drive shaft, now you can drive out the old joint.
The replacement joint will use inner c-clips.
you need to pull off wheels, brakes, rotor /unit hub bearing, both axles and intermediate shaft, as well as the vac disconnec ton the front axle tube. if only the right side leaks then only then only pull the right axle and intermediate shaft and vac disco. it is a trick with a miller tool to replace the seal. the left side seal is inside the diff and the carrier has to come out to replace it. pete
Wheel, brakes etc that are in way of pulling axle out have to come off. Drain rear end fluid, remove rear housing cover, remove bolt that holds pin in differential, remove differential pin, push in slightly on axle to remove "U" clip that holds shaft in, then slide shaft out. replace seal. Reverse procedure for re-install & fill with gear lube. If any questions, get back to us.
take the wheel off , unbolt caliper and sling it out of the way with a bungi cord, take off the rotor, then you have too take the pumpkin cover off the axel diff in the front (drain fluid first) easy way to do that take out bottom and side bolts out then leave top 1 or 2 in but finger loose. pry cover off with a sturdy scrapper from side allowing fluid to leak out from bottom of cover. when fluid is done comeing out then take off cover. to take the axel out to replace the seal you have to push the axel inwards to remove the C- CLIP on the end of the axel shaft that slides into the inside of the pinion gear (use a extending magnet) keeps gear oil on your hands and from dropping it into the pumpkin housing. then all you have to do is slide the axel shaft out. then replace the seal .
