Need to replace boot sleeve on manual trans shifter

I had a Haynes book on my 2002 Hyundai Elantra, but I can not find it. I'm trying to replace the shifter sleeve on the manual shifter. Do you know if the entire center console needs to come out in order to take the two screws out of the sleeve, or is there an easier way. The center console is getting stuck on the E Brake.

Thanks.

The frame that holds the "leather" in place just pops right out (come at it from one side; it'll sort of pivot around the other side -- I can't recall which is which, but trial and error works). Alternately, if you remove the six screws holding the entire center console in place, it can slide forward and rotate such that it'll clear the e-brake. Alternately alternately, if you curl your fingers underneath the boot frame on the side facing the rear of the car, you can pop the darker gray smooth plastic part of the center console entirely off while leaving the whole center console screwed in.

Which auto repair manual has the most specific instructions for replacing timing belt on 2003 elantra?

A haynes repair manual should have a pretty precise set of directions. I could also fax you a copy for a small fee. but if you spend the money for the book you would have all the information you ever could need for the car. its up to you which one you would rather go with.

Will not shift out of park

can you move the shifter and it wont go into gear or will the shifter not move at all?? if shifter wont move, there is an electrical solinoid that will not allow the shifter to release when the car is off, that could be faulty, i think it also has a safety mechanism that wont allow it to shift if your foot is not on the brake? if the shifter moves through prn321 but the trans wont come out of park, you have broken the shifter cableand or damaged the shifter mechanism in the trans. hope i have been of some assistance
