The power steering system includes a P.S. pump which will whine when you turn a hard left or right while in park. There are also power steering hose that can leak. Then there is also a power steering gear box. Unless you have a rack and pinion steering system. Then that is changed as a unit.

2005 Mercury. Problem with steering hard to turn on it after I changed the power steering pump. It is still hard to turn?

Didn't I answer this yesterday?
Question edited for clarity. Please always include model. Some models have known issues!

Sometimes after a power steering pump is installed, reduced pressure inside the hydraulic lines will build, which can create the symptoms you're experiencing. In other cases, low power steering fluid levels can cause this to occur, as can air bubbles trapped in the hydraulic lines.

Very hard to turn steering wheel

Um... the video didn't demonstrate anything, only showed the steering wheel and the key.

If the engine is running, the tires aren't jammed against solid objects, there's no noise from the pump, the belt is tight, the power steering reservoir is full of fluid, and the steering wheel is still very hard to turn... then I suspect that the power steering pump has simply worn out badly and needs to be replaced.

Power steering stiff and jumpy...when the weel is turned hard either way the engine belts actually slip and the alternator stops charging. Is my power steering pump burned out ?

I would change the belt first. Power steering is required for all turning but does get a little more usage during hard turns. You will want to check the fluid levels of the power steering pump as well.

Hi,
Intermittent hard power steering, at the begining of the turn of the steering wheel, once disturbed past the hard part, works normal.
Had fluid change, I notice a sensor, on the control block tower of the rack, is this at fault ? thanks buckleyeng.
