I ned to assemble the component parts and install the handbrake lever and cable to my car.
I am building a kit car that uses a handbrake lever and cable from a Jaguar XJS, this morning the parts arrived from the supplier, but I can't figure out how they go together.
Can anyone send me a drawing or steer me in the right direction.
Cheers

Apply service brake pedal three times with a force of approximately 175 lbs.
Fully apply and release parking brake three times. Full application may require two pedal strokes.
Raise and support vehicle, then mark relationship between wheel and axle flange.
Check parking brake pedal assembly for full release as follows:
Turn ignition switch to On position.
If ``Brake\'\' lamp is illuminated, operate manual brake release and pull downward on front parking brake cable to remove slack from pedal assembly.
Remove rear wheel and tire assemblies, then install two lug nuts to retain each rotor assembly.
If two parking brake levers on both calipers are not against lever stops on caliper housings, check for binding in rear cables and/or loosen cables at adjuster until both left and right levers are against their stops.
Tighten parking brake cable at adjuster until either the left or right lever begins to move off the stop, then loosen adjustment until lever moves back barely touching stop.
Operate parking brake several times to check adjustments. A firm pedal feel should be obtained by pumping pedal two full strokes and rear wheels should not rotate forward when parking brake is fully applied.
Install wheel and tire assemblies, aligning marks made in step 3.
General advice:All handbrakes rise adjust from under the car, very rare behind the handle lever.Worning:Handbrake adjustment need to balance so u need to know if each back wheel brakes even,in order to see that u may have to jack the car and count the rising clicks on handbrake lever to see at what point the wheel stops (u must rotate the wheel by hand (and maybe ask for a friend to brake),with quite some force.Inspect also the interior component (in the back drum if apply,if on disc there is no need)Empiric :by driving at low speed on even road and handbrake hard, the marks of each wheel on the road must start +/- at the same point.Warning:This is dangerous manouver, the car may drift,do not steer while braking,if not shure, better take it to a dino test.Tip:if u tune eack whell at the max brake open position, the handbrake balance, and from there u can adjust the hight of the lever rise by loosing or tighten the cable.Hope u deal it.Cheers.
lf you follow the route of the cables under the car then pull on the left and right outer cables one or the other should come apart failing that it will probably be a break in the handbrake lever....Hope this help`s..
Hello, My usual Brands are Ford products, but Foreign cars usually use simple, less expensive ways to do things. Assuming the brake pads are good, there should be a cable connected to the handbrake. You would usually pull the handbrake up to engage about 1/4 the way to engagement and lock it there.
Then you would go underneath the car and find the cable that stretches from the handbrake lever to a juction with a second cable. There should be an adjusting thread somewhere at this intersection.
With the rear wheels off the ground, you would tighten the nut on the threads of the handbrake cable until you hear rubbing in the rear brakes. Then get inside the car and pull back on the handbrake lever and you should not be able to move the rear wheels with the handbrake set. You then release the handbrake 100% and the rear wheels should turn mostly without noise.
Now if you can not find an adjustment nut under the car, it is possible the handbrake adjustment nut is under the handbrake cover/boot inside the car. Still use the same process of setting the lever 1/4 engaged and tightening the threaded cable until the rear wheels start dragging.
1989-97 Vehicles Drum Brakes (Let me know if you need the Disc Brake Instructions)
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies, then remove the brake drum.

Install Brake Cylinder Clamp D81L-1103-B or equivalent, over the ends of the rear wheel cylinder.
Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.

Remove the 2 brake shoe hold-down retainers, springs and pins.
Spread the brake shoes over the piston shoe guide slots. Lift the brake shoes, springs and adjuster off the backing plate as an assembly. Be careful not to bend the adjusting lever.

Remove the adjuster spring. To separate the shoes, remove the retracting springs.
Remove the parking brake lever retaining clip and spring washer. Remove the lever from the pin.

To install:
Apply a light coating of caliper slide grease to the backing plate brake shoe contact areas.
Apply a light coat of lubricant to the threaded areas of the adjuster screw and socket. Assemble the brake adjuster with the stainless steel washer. Turn the socket all the way down on the screw, then back off 1?2 turn.
Install the parking brake lever to the trailing shoe with the spring washer and a new retaining clip. Crimp the clip to securely retain the lever.
Position the trailing shoe on the backing plate and attach the parking brake cable. Position the leading shoe on the backing plate and attach the lower retracting spring to the brake shoes.
Install the adjuster assembly to the slots in the brake shoes. The socket end must fit into the wider slot in the leading shoe. The slot in the adjuster nut must fit into the slots in the trailing shoe and parking brake lever.
Fig. 10: Install the adjuster assembly in the slots in the brake shoes
Install the adjuster lever on the pin on the leading shoe and to the slot in the adjuster socket.
Install the upper retracting spring in the slot on the trailing shoe and the slot in the adjuster lever. The adjuster lever should contact the star and adjuster assembly.
Install the brake shoe anchor pins, springs and retainers. Remove the brake cylinder clamp tool
Install the brake drum, wheel and tire assemblies and lower the vehicle.
Apply the brakes several times while backing up the vehicle. After each stop, the vehicle must be moved forward.
1. Raise the vehicle and release the handbrake. 2. De-adjust the handbrake cable.
Remove the locking pin.
Slacken the adjuster locknut.
Slacken the adjuster until the levers on the callipers have returned to their stops.
3.
Paint alignment lines on the lever and caliper
4. Tighten the adjuster until the caliper levers move from the alignment
lines.
5. Apply the handbrake to equalise the cable.
6. Tighten the adjuster locknut to a minimum of three clicks and a maximum
of six clicks.
7. Fit a new adjuster locking pin.
8. Lower the vehicle.
The handbrake adjuster is under the centre console behind the lever. If its coming too high, check that the levers at the rear brake calipers are free and moving back to their stop position - they are prone to seizing up on older or little used cars. They can usually be freed off with a bit of lube and working the lever back and forwards. If that dosn't work, unfortunately you'll need new calipers. Do not adjust the handbrake cable unless the caliper levers are at their stops as this seriously reduces handbrake efficiency!
